Dear VR Friends,
Yesterday ranked right up there with the deepest joy we ladies have upon becoming mothers! My oncologist (God bless him!) told me my second PET scan...the one between chemo #4 and #5 came back crystal clear and that I am in total and complete remission! It is hard to describe the unbelievable relief that comes with those words!! Today I wrapped up chemo #5 and I have one more to go! It has been one heck of a rocky road with fevers, blisters, dehydration, weakness, etc and a few stops to the hospital, but I am so thankful for modern technology! What with my heart and lymphoma, it is safe to say I wouldn't be here otherwise.
Perhaps normal living is within reach. I am scheduled to return to my classroom after the Christmas holiday. I haven't been back to teaching since I left March 31 for my Open Heart. Hard to believe! I'm so ready emotionally. Physically.....still working on it!
I have so much hope and joy in my heart. I have so many precious, precious friends here on vr.com who have shared my journey and carried me through my darkest of days. Where would I be without each and every one of you?? My heart goes out to each of you. You know who you are! One thing I need to say is my heart and soul will not be totally whole again until I hear victorious stories from the other vr.comers who are also struggling with cancer. My prayers are with you. I can't forget you for I know oh too well the terror that rips through us upon any kind of cancer diagnosis. Keep fighting.
God's speed,
Debbi

What wonderful news!!!!! So glad to read you update!!! Prayers for your strenghth & recovery continue.

Debbi-

I was so happy to see this post. BIG congratulations for you. Did you have FEC combo, by any chance? That is a six unit treatment, and the one I had. It was very tough, with lots of side effects. But then they are all pretty tough.

The end is near. Good for you!

Nancy,
No, I had the CHOP regiment with the new miracle drug Rituxin! I could have had 8 rounds of chemo but since scan was clear, we stuck with the original 6 rounds. :D I will be on Rituxin for two years - once every 3 months. The results are startlingly! Keeps us lympho people in remission for years...aka decades. My onco told me although my kind of lympho is considered incurable at the moment, once the latest research results are included in the total picture, he truely believes one day he will be able to tell me I am cured. Rituxin is a gentler, kinder kind of med. Can be given through IV in arm so I will be able to have my chemo port removed from chest. Very few side effects with Rituxin.
My hair is already starting to grow back. I don't know if that is normal or not. But I am not complaining. It is still dark. Too early to tell if it is going to be straight or curly. Oh, I love the good kind of surprises.
CATWOMAN.......I do, I believe I have the best of the best of guardian angels. In fact, I believe I might just have several. I've been keeping them very busy! It took more than one!!! :)
Take care of Joe and yourself!

It is so wonderful to hear about all the new and successful cancer meds which are being developed. There seem to be a couple of excellent ones comng out every year now, for all kinds of cancer.

Hi Debbi, You sound like youve climbed Mt.Everest and are standing on the TOP of the world. Congratulations. You must be a very strong lady...

WTG Debb. I know you feel like a huge boulder has left your shoulders. Thats the way my wife felt, now where's that pic?:)

Debbi, Nice to hear the good news. I'm a 11 year cancer survivor so I know the feeling well. Every morning I give thanks for being able to get out of bed. Until I had my AVR, I thought, other than my family and friends, I only had one reason but now I know there are many, many more.

Debbi,

This warms my heart so very much. Thank you for letting us know and I hope this remission lasts forever.

Please take care and hope to meet next time I pass through.

Debbi, I am so happy to hear such good news!!!

"one heck of a rocky road with fevers, blisters, dehydration, weakness, etc and a few stops to the hospital,"

You've had to go through so much right after having OHS but it has made you a stronger woman who, I'm sure, will now be used to bless others who are walking in your footsteps. Only those who have walked that path can fully understand your experience!

May you be blessed with a long, cancer free life!!:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Debbi..
Rejoicing with you in your Good news!
I would believe that your positive attitude had a lot to do with your recovery as well!!
((((Debbi))))
