Hello everyone. :) I was not scheduled to have a 6 month post-op. My cardio said she didn?t need to see me for a year. But then all you April guys started reporting about your 6 month check ups and I felt left out!! :(

SO. I tried just calling her to ask some questions. In 2 weeks, the office never responded. Undaunted, I fenagled my way into an appointment with the receptionist (calling innocently to set up a ?6 month post-op? 2 weeks late) and got in 2 days later, yesterday. :p Sneaky, eh??

Karmically, she kept me waiting an hour. As she (the cardio) entered the room, she just flumped smiling into the chair and apologized for being so long. They?d called her in 2 hours early for an angiogram and it had thrown her whole day off. I told her it was karma due to my sneaking in and we had a great laugh. The whole meeting was the BEST I?d ever had with her.

She is delighted with the sounds of my heart. ?so quiet now?. I asked for several things; lowering my Atenolol dose to 25mg (so that my dreams and other side effects might dissipate), an okay for Celebrex use (bad knee, MRI yesterday?.we?ll see what?s up) and an okay for knee replacement should that be in the offing (I don?t think it is, tho). It was yes, yes, yes. She laughed about being so agreeable. Since I have no PVC?s at this time (which is why the Atenolol was given originally) we can try the cutting back, or switch me to something else. No way I?ll ever be off the BP meds, she says. My age and the perimenopause stuff?..she just wants me on BP meds forever?.

So all in all a great visit. Echo in 6 months. (I?d had one at one month due to massive but benign arrythmias which went away on their own). Cholesterol check this week (ugh, my triglycerides were high pre-op) and BP check with her in 2 weeks to be sure the new dosage is okay.

Feeling great!! Hoping that all my April buddies are similarly jubilant.

:D Marguerite

Great report Marguerite and I am sure you are elated and feeling Very Fit! Congrats.:D

Yippee!!!!!

Thats great news ...cutting back the BP meds always make me happy too.
Now that your heart is perfect you can concentrate on healing those knees.

Most excellent report, Marguerite! I just came up on 14 months myself. All is pretty well so far:) My cardio told me to see him in a year last December. Sooooo....I need to make my 1 yr echo/follow up appt. for next month. Hoping for an uneventful visit. Sorry to hear about your knee troubles, Marguerite. I'm having more trouble getting around as well. The Dystrophy continues it's slow but steady progression here:mad: I've started to rely more on the walker than the cane. It kinda sucks.
My exercise routine consists of grabbing a shopping cart, & walking laps around the inside of Walmart. The cart is less conspicuous than my walker, & works just as well. Seems my heart got fixed just in time for my leg muscles to give out......oh well....could be worse;) I'm trying to put off getting a scooter as long as I can. I'm just stubborn that way, I guess.

Thanks everyone! :D

MRI showed no tears or problems (just osteoarthritis starting up). So this time he was right! (when I had both my orhtoscopic surgeries 4 years ago, it took the MRI's for him to believe I had torn my meniscus.....both knees, too!! funny how you have to push with some doctors!!) Starting up on Celebrex to see what that will do. (cardio said it was fine since my arteries were all clear) Waiting to get the authorization for the Synvisc shots and will try them if they are covered by insurance. Wanting to get this all done before the calendar year is up since I've maxed out my out-of-pocket with the heart surgery and this stuff is, well, kind of FREE at this point! ;)

George. I'm sorry to hear that you are slowing down. Funny how we get our hearts fixed only to have our legs poop out on us. I always figured everything would get better after surgery. It almost seems as if some of the bad stuff was just resting and is waking up now. Go figure? At least we feel stronger in general and can go after it all. I'm glad to hear that you have a system for getting exercise. Good thinking!! :)

Good news; it sounds like all your parts are returning to normal. Try to stay away from anyone in lab coats or scrubs!

Great 6 month report Marguerite!!

I hope the SynVisc works for you -- didn't do anything for me, but I do know that it helps a lot of folks. I think if you still have some cartiledge left, it might work.

My echo was supposed to be tomorrow, but they called and had me reschedule it for Dec 8. Something about an office meeting.

Haven't you heard? After the age of 40, it is ALL maintenance!! :D

So glad to hear your great news regarding your heart.

Happy Thanksgiving to you!! (which as we know here on Vr.com takes on a whole new meaning after heart surgery)
