I don't have one. I do access my daughter's (15 years old) and son's (13 years old) on a regular basis to check up on them and their friends!

First time that I had heard of it...Grandson's best friend came a few weeks ago. Asked me nicely..may I use your computer? I said, why?He said, want to check MySpace ..I let him do it...then later, after he left ..found out about this site...Scary..heard that young kids were giving out too much information.........My son does not allow my Grandson to use the computer..unless he is right there with him...Only for school work.....This friend of his..is 1 year older..but in the same grade....He is a very nice young man..from a good family..but scared me..when I allowed him to use my computer..thank goodness, he was on and out in a few minutes.....but I do not know what he does at home... .Thank goodness, my Grandson is not that interested in computer talk. would rather spend his time outside...:D Doing the things that age 13 year old boys like to do..skateboarding, biking, ect....When he spends the weekends, ect. with me..He has never asked to use my computer....Very scary..what these sites can get young people..involved in?when they are home alone for a few hours ..before their parents come home:eek: Bonnie

I have one, but it's not updated.. only got the 'seedy' inquiries... so i'm looking at creating my own blog on blogger.com then eventually move into more serious website with possibly AQHOST or similar hosting company - goal is to eventually market a business or two on them.. one being a Virtual Assistant service. still in the beginning stages on both..

Voted for "do not have one", but also know what it is because it has been all

Oh but the things you could say and only attract friends, maybe even the FBI! :D

I wouldn't be worried about the FBI (unless you have done something wrong:eek: ). But I'd avoid being over the edge, beyond the pale wacky if you will be applying for credit or a new job.

Hey Tommy, where in Texas are you located? just courious.. sounds like you're in the DFW metroplex (Denton Area) - I lived near Garland/Mesquite, worked across from the Gallaria and then in Plano before moving back to PA.. I'm thinking about coming down for a mini vacation.. haven't made up my mind yet.. between two cities, Dallas being one of them.. I have a friend in The Colony who offered his place to stay while I go out and do the Dallas thing - visit old friends and stomping grounds.. I don't do the bar thing hardly any more, but I miss areas like Deep Ellum, Lower Greenville and the Fort Worth Stockyards..(which I realize is going from one extreme to another - what can I say, i'm eclectic) and I know this sounds weird, but you can't find fried pickles up here - so I also miss Razzoo's. So when in Dallas.... :D

and so now I don't use it at all...I have stayed away from it from the moment I found out what was happening on it.....So much for naivity....(sp) ? Harrybaby:eek:

Bonnie-

Better check out your history list to see where that young man went while online on your computer. You wouldn't want any seedy Internet sites appearing on your computer based on what he was viewing :D

I don't have a MySpace website although it is something that I wouldn't rule out, I haven't ever checked it out. If it just provides some web space then it could be useful to me, I am shortly giving up my old dial up ISP as I never use it, they provided me with some space within the fee.

What Bonnie said is something I know lots about, kids giving too much information about themselves. I am an administrator and chief moderator of a website (nothing to do with medical issues) and we have a constant battle to prevent young members giving out ages, names, locations, schools etc. We edit information out of profiles, tell them not to divulge information but still they do it.

I have one but it's blank as it can be. I use it only to check up on my kids and their friends once in a while. My kids understand the concept of not posting anything that could identify them to others and keep their pages private anyway so that they have to be asked for access and they decide whether to grant it or not. (You have to be designated a friend by the page owner to view the page.) If anyone posts identifying info, to their page they delete it.

It can definitely be a problem if the kids are not careful with it, but I choose to monitor it rather than forbid it. Those who are forbidden may have one anyway and then it's not being monitored. (Unless the parent of a friend (;) ) is doing so on the sly.)

I would love to know more.

I would love to know more.

I don't know as much as I would like about "My Space'. I pay Apple Computer for space on what is called a .mac account. That is the place where I published the "Sand & Rock" podcast. By using .mac, I create my stuff on the computer and then hit the publish button. This is very convenient, but free would be nice.

I think it may very well be true that the news media has hyped the possible dangers WAY out of proportion. When you think of it, kids are probably much more likely to get in trouble with cars, telephones, etc. I, like others, am aware that there have been a few terrible problems associated with "My Space'. But I think the media can't resist the opportunity to scare people to death where computers are involved.

If anyone wanted to post a small primer on how to get and run your own "My Space" place, I for one, would be an eager reader.

One of our members invited me to see something on her "My Space" site, but I never was able to get by the security, even with her help.

And I'm the member Dennis is referring to! There's one correction though . . . it's My Live Space, hosted by MSN, rather than My Space. However I also have an account with My Space that I've used in the past to see what my kids were up to. They're too old to be checking up on anymore, so I never log into it.

In regards to the My Live Space, if anyone around here has a hankering to take a look at it, shoot me a PM and I'll send the link.

I have one -

I have one -

great place to post photos for people to look at. It freaked me out at first to think that the whole world (literally) was looking at our photos but I soon got over that. As long as there are no names or addresses on the site, I feel totally safe. I know you can lock down the site to only those you want to see it, but I think they have to be MSN subscribers - not sure how that works.

I haven't been on the site in a long time but I have never had any crazy comments from anyone (so far).
