Hi, all--
Heh, I ditched school, I mean, work today--not really because I wanted to, but because I darn near passed out in the shower when I was getting ready for work. My DH, who's off today because of the holiday, came rushing in. I just did  I did not feel well, I was having what felt like a zillion PVCs, and my legs felt like rubber. I called the secretary and scheduled a sub for my classes, but then later she called and told me that I can't come back to work until I see my cardio. I called Dr. V's at 9 this morning and the secretary told me to come in at 10:30.

Turns out I need more sodium in my diet! Dr. V isn't worried about my weight, I haven't gained nor have I lost any since my last visit, and I'm relatively thin, but he just wants me to eat some more salt, stay hydrated, and take an antiarrhythmic to see if that works. He even mentioned sending me to the electrophysiologist again. No thank you! He wants to see me again in December, but geez did I have a scare!

Let's hope NOTHING ELSE interesting happens!

P.S. Today was my students' first day with a sub. They BETTER have behaved themselves!!!

Too scary, but glad you got to see the cardio and it is a simple solution- enough of that for now- time to have a boring recovery!

How frightening...........

How frightening...........

Glad to hear that you got in and he thinks things are relatively "ok." Please keep us posted. Hugs. J.

Boy, you better be careful there Deb, especially in the shower.
BTW what does DH stand for, I just can't figure it out.

So bring on the potato chips!

I'm glad it's a salt issue. I've always been told to not cut out salt because my BP is so low to begin with. I wonder what your BP was when you were feeling like that?

Yup, DH stands for "dear husband." Let's not talk about the time three years ago when I had the flu and passed out in the shower on Thanksgiving Day!

Stupidly enough, Karlynn, I took my BP machine with me to work so I can monitor my BP there. When I was at Dr. V's, it was 106/65 or something like that. Anyhow, after the cardio visit, Mike and I had In-N-Out Burger for lunch. Yummmm...fries..SALT...
:D
Then my mom calls to check on me, how on earth she found out I went to the cardio I have no idea (all this heart stuff freaks her out) and told me that her friend who also sees my cardio couldn't get in to see him today, so how could I have "carte blanche" and get in with a phone call like that? Hmmm...maybe I'm just "special."

Deb -

Glad to hear that the fix was simple and nothing serious was going on. Heart surgery really messes up our bodies and they need tender loving care after the ordeal.

I recently had a long bout of really strong PACs - I thought it was because I ate too many beans last week (hee) and that caused irritation of the vagus nerve by my stomach/hiatal hernia. Anyway, I am more inclined to think it was because I was drinking way too much water (per the suggestion of my family physician) and not repleting any minerals. I cannot believe I did that.

So, I have been adding Emergen-C (sp?) to my water each day (two glasses with the Emergen-C in it) - this has 1000 mg of vitamin C and also magnesium and potassium, plus B vitamins. My cardio nurse a couple of years ago suggested drinking Gatorade every day. I never kept up with that.

Anyway, stay hydrated but keep those minerals in your body also. Your heart needs them!

Thanks for the tip, Christina--Dr. V suggested Gatorade as a supplemental way to keep me hydrated. My former, not-so-awesome cardio suggested that too, but the only times I drank it were when I was sick.

Karlynn--Are we talking "favorite patient special" or "the other kind of special"? Not to offend anyone, but my hubs jokes when I have my post-surgery brain farts, "Did you just get off the short bus"? What a dear man.

The nurses were giving me a bad time today too when they did my EKG, "You're one of Dr. V's girlfriends!" One shushed the other--apparently the wife, who takes care of the billing and sales reps, was right outside the door. My hubby was there and he replied, "Don't you think he's a little too hairy for Deb?" LOL.
