Hard to believe it's all over already. I got to come home Friday afternoon, so I've had a full day of maneuvering around the house. (When did they make that stairway so LONG ??:)

Dr. Cosgrove worked his magic and I think I was only in surgery less than 3 hours. I have about a 3 1/2 inch incision. Dr. C said he was real pleased with the surgery, and I had Zero leakage on my post op echoes (think I've had about 3 echoes since Monday). The amazing news was that I got to have TWO (not just one, TWO!!!!) audiences with the good Dr.!!!:) The nursing staff and everyone at Cleveland Clinic were all just excellent. I have no idea where they get their impersonal reputation, since we all bonded real quickly and there were hugs all around when I left. The BAD news is, I heard that Dr. Cosgrove is going to be giving up surgery in about 6 mos. He's only doing a couple a week now as it is.

I was lucky that they had already pulled my vent before I left the OR, so really only woke up in ICU with a severally dry mouth. I traded letting them take vitals all night for ice chips (Deal, or No Deal?). They also pulled the drainage tubes in ICU (kind of icky but not painful). Getting my pacemaker wires out on Thursday was actually more of a toothgrinder. They stopped my supplemental oxygen on Thursday, and threw me out on Fri. The trip home went well, as I was able to sleep most of the way.

Last night I tried to sleep in bed but I started the "heavy pounding" on my back. Moved to the recliner after a few hours, and that's where I'm camping out now. ALready had my first occular migraine this evening (no watching TV in a dark room, and then having soemone come in and turn on all the light!!!). I hope everyone on here learns about occular migraines, since they weren't mentioned in any of my discharge papers, and they would send you into a full blown panic attack if you didn't know what was happening.

I was only sent home on a baby aspirin, and Prilosec OTC. They gave e Percoset, but I have already switched to Tylenol since just one Percoset would start me shaking for a half hour, and I would flush so badly, it felt like my face was on fire.

Thanks for everyones encouraging remarks post op. My daughter would read them to me, since I never did find the computers at the end of the hall (I think it's just a trick to keep you walking!).

Strech....I think you'll be amazed how much easier this is than the hemorrhoid thingy!. I hated when they pulled my catheter since I knew I would have to start getting up to pee.

Time to rest now!

Peg,

Welcome back to southern Ohio. Glad to hear all went so well. The vent out before leaving the OR - man do you lead a charmed life.;) :D ;)

Be sure and rest and don't forget to walk and breathe. Welcome to this side of the mountain.

Take care.

Peg, you sound wonderful! I'm so glad this is behind you and hope your recovery is smooth and complete. Vent out before leaving OR? WOW! Keep breathing deep and moving and plenty of rest. I don't know why ocular migraines are not covered in post-op material since so many of us have had them.

You sound great Peg...
now you get to do the "rest, sleep, eat and breathe" bit for a few weeks ...

well done on an excellent recovery so-far...we are all jealous you got off easy with the vent!

Peg!!

Great to hear from you! A great night, first Ohio State wins handily against Iowa and then a great response from you. Way to go!!

Keep resting up and keep posting when you can. I am sooooo happy for you that everything went so well!
:)
Congrats!

Oh Peg I am so happy for you that it went so well!! I wish you a continued peaceful recovery!

Happy to hear that things are progressing so well.

Keep moving, watch your breathing and your posture (helps the breathing). You will have good days and bad days. Take advantage of the good days, and don't press it on the bad ones.

Best wishes,

So glad to hear that things went so well, Peg. Keep up the great recovery and be sure to take advantage of the pampering for a while. Best wishes to you.

great Report Peg!!
Now rest, walk, eat, and breath!!

awesome!!!! So glad to hear you are home and resting. I get the occular migraines too have for 3 years now. I also in my left eye have a permanent black out spot just a little one thank god. This is due to I have fluid leaking from a sak in my eye, optometrist say it is from stress. But the doctor told me that the occular migraines are ok and normal even though I know how scary they can be. However the blackout in my right eye where I went blind for 10 minutes was due to a blood clot flake coming from my corotid artery. During surgery they put some cath down the same corotid artery. So it made sense how a clot may form. Our bodies are just adjusting to post surgery trauma. My occular migraines were severe for the first week after surgery and I haven't had one since for about 2 weeks. So it should get better. Glad to hear you are home and resting. Take Care :)

I'm glad to hear that you're home Peg. I think we should start a grassroots movement to demand a pain killer before chest tubes are pulled along with the pacer wires. :)

Wonderful to hear you did so well Peg. Best wishes for a continued smooth recovery. Barbara
