Hard to believe it's all over already. I got to come home Friday afternoon, so I've had a full day of maneuvering around the house. (When did they make that stairway so LONG ??
Dr. Cosgrove worked his magic and I think I was only in surgery less than 3 hours. I have about a 3 1/2 inch incision. Dr. C said he was real pleased with the surgery, and I had Zero leakage on my post op echoes (think I've had about 3 echoes since Monday). The amazing news was that I got to have TWO (not just one, TWO!!!!) audiences with the good Dr.!!! The nursing staff and everyone at Cleveland Clinic were all just excellent. I have no idea where they get their impersonal reputation, since we all bonded real quickly and there were hugs all around when I left. The BAD news is, I heard that Dr. Cosgrove is going to be giving up surgery in about 6 mos. He's only doing a couple a week now as it is.
I was lucky that they had already pulled my vent before I left the OR, so really only woke up in ICU with a severally dry mouth. I traded letting them take vitals all night for ice chips (Deal, or No Deal?). They also pulled the drainage tubes in ICU (kind of icky but not painful). Getting my pacemaker wires out on Thursday was actually more of a toothgrinder. They stopped my supplemental oxygen on Thursday, and threw me out on Fri. The trip home went well, as I was able to sleep most of the way.
Last night I tried to sleep in bed but I started the "heavy pounding" on my back. Moved to the recliner after a few hours, and that's where I'm camping out now. ALready had my first occular migraine this evening (no watching TV in a dark room, and then having soemone come in and turn on all the light!!!). I hope everyone on here learns about occular migraines, since they weren't mentioned in any of my discharge papers, and they would send you into a full blown panic attack if you didn't know what was happening.
I was only sent home on a baby aspirin, and Prilosec OTC. They gave e Percoset, but I have already switched to Tylenol since just one Percoset would start me shaking for a half hour, and I would flush so badly, it felt like my face was on fire.
Thanks for everyones encouraging remarks post op. My daughter would read them to me, since I never did find the computers at the end of the hall (I think it's just a trick to keep you walking!).
Strech....I think you'll be amazed how much easier this is than the hemorrhoid thingy!. I hated when they pulled my catheter since I knew I would have to start getting up to pee.
Time to rest now!
