Hello Everyone,
I'm new to posting and might surgery have scheduled in the next few weeks. I was wondering if anyone has had surgery in San Diego. I will at Scripps Clinic - unless I get scared off by the surgeon and look into other options. ;) Any thoughts?

You have found the right forum to educate yourself and prepare. I spent about three weeks here before my son's Ross procedure, and we were ready. We knew the things we needed to know, and knew what to expect. So my best advice to you would be to scour the threads, looking for info that pertains. There is even a link to watch an aortic valve replacement being performed if you would like to see. It was too much for me before, but afterwards, I was able to watch it, and it is incredible. Good luck, and let us know what plans you make!

Welcome Kim

Welcome Kim

Hi Kim, my name is Randy and I am new to the site as well. I can't tell you how much better I feel about things just writing and reading on this site. I encourage you to read and learn (like I am) from all of these veterans of Open Heart Surgery.

I know very little about Scripps except that it has a grat reputation. You definitely want to go to a big hospital that has all the guchi equipment for OHS. I am going to Cedars Sinai, and temp69 I believe is having his surgery this morning at UCLA. I hope all goes well for you and again welcome, theres a lot of hope and love here.

Hi Kim. Welcome to our wonderful community. I've been here over 2 years and these wondeful people carried me through my surgery just beautifully!! I am 2 months post op and doing great!

Whenever you do go into your doctor's, surgeon, or cardio, we always advise that you take a list of questions to refer to, and don't be satisifed with the answers the doctors give you until you really understand what they have said to you. It's your time.....be sure to get the thorough answers you need to make your decisions.

We are not medical professionals here. We are just people who have had personal experiences. Your best answers ALWAYS will come from your doctors since everyone's case is so different.

That said, we have great ideas, great stories and are totally dedicated to getting all our "newbies" through their journey as easily and stress free as possible! Ask as many questions as you'd like. Use the Search button to find some answers. PM individuals (private message.....up there in the right hand corner) anyone who seems to "speak your language" . USE US! Someone is hanging around most of the time!

Welcome!

:) Marguerite

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks for all of your responses. Randy, I am surprized at how much better I feel reading everyone's story and posts too. The idea of a support group seems so simple, yet very effective. I have an angiogram on Thursday and from there I will meet the surgeon and talk about scheduling surgery. I am nervous, but also hopeful and relieved to having the surgery behind me. It's feels like it's been looming over my head for years! I will keep everyone posted.

I think Scripps, Cedars or UCLA would be the best places to go in So Cal.
I have heard good things about all of them.
Interestingly, I had some nurses at Mass General who also worked at Scripps and they had very good things to say.
You can get much more objective data, obviously, but word on the street is good.
