My niece Kristie will be having her surgery on June 16 to remove her thyroid due to cancer. She is doing well and as Geebee mentioned the prognosis for this type of cancer is good. A few weeks later she'll drink some radioactive stuff to kill out any remainders of her thyroid. No further treatments required if nothing is found in her lymph nodes. There's quite a history on both sides of her family with thyroid problems. We feel really positive about this.

One last mention of my Aunt Shirley. She's being laid to rest today. The funeral home did an amazing job with her body....she was so particular about her appearance. We're trying to find homes for her dogs. Had an inquirer already. You can pray for Crissy & Ralph to get good homes if you think of it.

Boy your just chalk full of good news aren't you?

I think I better have a talk with my buddy about all of this.

Prayers to all of you and let us know how the surgery goes.

Yeah, I know. Honestly I felt reluctant to keep posting all of my bad news, but the thing is I know my friends will pray.

Well I don't feel alone anymore. I thought I was the only one that had this incredible luck, if you can call it that, but it seems quite a few of us do.

Kristie and your family continue to be in my prayers.
What kind of dogs are you trying to place? There are many people near you so let us know and who knows what God will manage to pull off.

Wise, you and yours have my prayers and sympathy

I am soooo sorry that you are going through this....it's not been a good year for alot of us, but hopefully, the second half will be much better. Please take care, and know that your in my thoughts and prayers. Harrybaby:eek:

Harry, my second half doesn't look any better than the first half. Last year I hoped for a better year (2006) - next year I am not doing that.

Wise, your neice is in my thoughts. My friend had hers out a long time ago. They put her in a room on the top floor of the hospital in a special room for radiation. She was isolated and nobody came in except limited staff, dressed in protective clothing. They came in through two locked doors. Her food was passed through some sort of windows. Gosh, nowadays they give medicine for the same thing. How far they have come. My friend did very well, takes replacement medicine for the rest of her life. This is about 25 yrs ago and she's done fine.

I know you are all settling down after these harrowing days. Good wishes to all.

One of the dogs was placed in a good home today with a lady who worked with my aunt. She was a blue heeler/jack russell mix.

Ralph is a German Shepard/Chocolate Lab mix. Once he's cleaned up he'd be an attractive dog. He needs lots of patience and love; he's only been used to my aunt and he barks much. We think he's around 10 give or take; not really sure.

Kristie's thyroid was removed yesterday. They believe they got all of it, thus all of the cancer; no cancer in the lymph nodes!! Thank you to all of you who prayed for her. She's 26 year old lady with two daughters, 5 & almost 2, and a good husband; so, she's got a lot to do and a lot of living ahead of her.

I guess she'll still drink the radioactive stuff in about six weeks and be "quarantined?" as far as no one can touch anything she touches for a few days.

That stinks, but at least she has a chance at life. Keep us updated.

Ross, I meant to portray good news, but with all of the bad news I've shared in recent weeks I may be out of practice at relaying good news.

Actually, the docs feel good about it. They believe they removed all of the cancer. She should be okay, after she gets past the quarantine thing.

Good news, Wise. I pray she has an easy recovery and a long and happy life with her beautiful family.

I've got two topics in this one thread, but this is an update. Ralph has a new family. We found out that he's 9 years old, so we're relieved.

Also, my mother has had five offers on my aunt's house. We were concerned that we couldn't give it away. So, that's great too. Many prayers answered!!

Wise, I'm glad your niece got a good report from her surgery and that your aunt's dogs were placed in good families. Also happy about the offers on your aunt's home. I just love good news!:D LINDA

That goes for me, too!

Ditto! Keeping y'all in my prayers. Many hugs. J.

Your niece should do just fine with her surgery and radiation. I have a friend who had this same surgery aweek after her c-section to fdeliver her twins. Then she had the radiation at 6 weeks after her c-section. Her twins are 8 now and she is fine.
