MADE YOU LOOK:p

Do you know how big your valve is? After some research, I believe mine is 29mm. That seems rather large for a mitral valve. I'm not a big person - 120bls.....but big enough I guess.

One more question: what is a TEE? And I don't mean golfing. The only follow-up I've had is x-rays & blood work requested by my surgeon - done in June. Saw the heart specialist cardio guy 2 weeks ago - no tests, maybe an echo next month and I see MY GP about every three weeks.

I feel that I should be getting more tests done. Or perhaps more frequently. This well be my first echo, since pre-op, and I've had no stress test.

Maybe I shouldn't worry about it, but I thought I would ask.

HEY, just watch how many hits you get on THIS thread:D :D :D

Mine is 21mm St. Jude. I'm little, around 105-110 pounds, small frame.
Post op I had an echo at 3 months....that was it, besides check ups and blood work.
You don't need lots of tests unless there is something they need to follow.
TEE is Trans Esophagal Echocardiogram.
It is usually done pre-surgery when the surgeon needs more info than a regular echo can provide.
They use a video camera in a tube down your throat.....yukky, but patients are drugged.

A TEE is like an echo,BUT you have to swallow the probeso they can see from inside you.
I am surprised you haven't had an echo post op yet, but I guess it has only been about 3 months which I know alot of docs don't do them right away unless there is a problem, So that's good the card will do one next month. I would call and ask beforehand, incase they didn't schedual it. A stress test usually isn't does in the first couple months post op. Justin's docs like to let the heart heal before they do stress test.
I'm not sure why you are going to the GP so often.
You should ask about cardiac rehab. Lyn

cooker, yours is a 23mm I believe....according to the code number....
And aren't mitrals usually larger than aortics?
Don't know. What is that in inches? I though the aortic was the big one but I don't know.

I know it seems to be working well today.

My mitral valve is 27mm and my aortic AP is 18mm, both are ATS.

I have cards in my wallet with the serial numbers, model numbers, name of sugeon who implanted them and the date, my name and address. The cards say to contact ATS if I change my address. The rear of the cards give me ATS's contact details including a toll-free number. They also say the devices are MRI compatible, that antibiotic treatment is recommended before dental or surgical procedures and finally patients must follow physician's anticoagulant prescription.

Don't you all have something like this in your wallet? They were given to me in hospital and I was told to keep them in my wallet at all times. I keep them underneath my MedicAlert card.

Glad to see you have some head protection:cool: Which is bigger, aortic or mitral?

YES, St.Jude Medicals sent me a lovely plastic card with the same info.

The mitral valve is bigger than the aortic valve. My mitral St. Jude is 33mm. They have to do more cutting of the atrium to get to the mitral valve, most of the work on the aortic valve is done by working from the outside without cutting open the atria. That's in part why there's a higher incidence of arrhythmias with mitral valve surgery.
