    Newbie, post surgery survey

3 days after surgery I was walking laps around the hospital and just stiff & sore getting outta bed. 2 weeks after surgery I went fishing all night with my brother & just handed him the pole if the fish felt bigger than 10lbs. 3 weeks later (a few days ago) I started driving and today I was...

4 days out of surgery, all 100% except a "junctional heart rythm"

I didn't really choose a valve, my surgeon seemed like he installs St. Jude valves profesionally so I wasn't about to throw the guy with a knife a curve ball & ask for something else that he obviously has way more knowledge & experience in than me. I ended up getting a St Jude mechanical 25mm...

I'm 32 yrs old, 6'1" 190lbs and pretty active. I was born with BAV, pretty much no symptoms until a month or so before surgery. I had my aortic valve replaced on tuesday morning, surgery was way above and beyond most others. I was in surgery for just over 3 hours and was awake and consious...

    During surgery questions???

I figured as much, just wasn't sure if its like when you're asleep, or like the "switch" is literally off and you don't know if you're out for hours or days.

    During surgery questions???

Thanks for the replies, they help more than you know. after getting 6 teeth cut out and going under for the first time I feel much better about this open heart ordeal. I had almost zero "pain" just a slightly stiff & achy jaw for a couple days and wondered why the 2 full bottles of jumbo pain...

I am going to assume surgery will be soon, within a month or two. how soon do they typically schedule you in for OHS after an angiogram?

    During surgery questions???

The 4.8cm aneurysm is prompting the surgery, I have no symptoms other that the less energy that I used to have which I attributed to being in my 30's and not 22 anymore

4.8cm aneurysm on ascending aorta questions

I have a BAV at 1.3cm with mild to severe stenosis that my cardiologist wanted to watch every 6 months with an expected replacement when things started to deteriorate. did a CT scan and said they found a 4.8 cm aneurysm so I guess that means now is the time. getting a angiogram scheduled in a...

    Trouble sleeping because of worry

I'm new to the forum and forgive me and feel free to rip me a new one if this is outta line, but one solid crown royal & 7up on ice in the evening on occasion does the trick for me, mixed about 25 to 30% crown. I'm not sure if alchohol is bad for post surgery or certain forum members, please...

Thanks Al thats exactly what I was looking for. I guess my sister in law has had surgery by this Dr. Brown and says he's great. she also does coding for that hospital and told my wife that Dr. brown does not do valve replacement surgery, she is guessing that he was the only available surgeon...

reffered to a Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeon by my general physician???

but what is "severe stenosis"? if my sq cm is at 1.3? is "severe" a matter of opinion? and varies from a general physician to a cardiologist and a surgeon or is severe steonsis of the aorta a specific measurement?

reffered to a Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeon by my general physician???

well I just called St ALexis with some questions and this surgeon's nurse was also confused, however she said the GP noted severe stenosis of the aorta with moderate to severe aortic insufficiency on my eccho results. so I agreed to keep my appointment with him just to at least let him look at...

reffered to a Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeon by my general physician???

Yes, so far I have had one appointment with a GP, where I had an eccho, an EKG, and wore a holter monitor for 24 hours. brought the holter back, they took some blood and called me the following week with my test results which were all good (according to the GP) except for the size of my BAV...

reffered to a Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeon by my general physician???

I was born with BAV and havn't been to a Dr. in years, decided to finally go in since the little voice in my head wouldn't shut up about it. I had to see a general physician first to be referred to a regular cardiologist since I did not have one. My blood pressure was 120 over 60 my blood work...

General physician says aortic valve at 1.3 cm with stenosis of the aorta.

The only symptoms I have ever had is some irregular heart beat episodes that happen once or twice a week, usually noticed when lying in bed before I go to sleep at night. the irregular beats only last a half to 2 seconds about 1 to three heartbeats worth. As far as energy goes I can dead...

General physician says aortic valve at 1.3 cm with stenosis of the aorta.

just got a call from my doc and she says aortic valve at 1.3 cm with stenosis of the aorta. she assumes I'm probably looking at surgery within a matter of months, and is reffering me to one of the St. Alexis cardiologists to review everything. On a lighter note she said if it wasn't for the...

New to forum, born with BAV, going to the DR. for the 1st time in 22 years...scared!

Yes, even though my general introduction to the Dr. and the EKG went well, I'm still nervous about the eccho. Out of curiosity, what percentage of people with BAV can live a normal life without major surgery or valve replacement?

New to forum, born with BAV, going to the DR. for the 1st time in 22 years...scared!

well I had an EKG, and the doc says for some one with BAV it looks great, and she said I have a murmur, but if I remember correctly I've had a murmur since birth. My blood pressure was 120 over 60, wich according to the Dr. is also great. I'll get the holter monitor next week and an...

first off I am so relieved to have found this forum, just a couple hours of reading has helped with alot of my worries. I'm 32 years old and was born with a bicuspid aortic valve. I had angioplasty (baloon) surgery when I was 10 years old (1989), and was back outside playing football and...
