2 weeks post op how far should we be walking?

Well, I saw my surgeon yesterday for post op follow-up and he said until I get off the beta blockers a 20 minute walk is enough because the beta blockers won't allow my heartrate to get up very high and it's possible that if I go longer I may hit a wall and just not be able to go anymore (of...

2 weeks post op how far should we be walking?

WOW - thanks so much for all the great info and response to my question. I'm not able to go to cardiac rehab as it is 1 1/2 hours away. I've been doing 20 minutes once or twice a day and am going to bump it up a little at a time. I see my surgeon tomorrow for my follow up and hopefully all is...

2 weeks post op how far should we be walking?

I had a schedule for the first week where I was walking 300 feet four times a day but no schedule for the following weeks? Did any of you get a schedule that says how far or long we should be walking in the 2nd through six weeks? Thanks a bunch. Vickie

minimally invasive heart surgery with no bone cutting

I had minimally invasive with no sternotomy 10 days ago. My incision is to my right of my sternum about an inch and is a horizontal 3 inch incision. Couldn't take pain meds after surgery because it made me so sick at my stomach so just took Tylenol. I haven't had any major problems and would...

Hi everybody and thanks for your input! Anne - I'm not sure what makes a person a candidate for this type - I know you will have to find a surgeon who does this type of BAV and mine told me my echo would determine whether or not I got a ministernotomy or a non sternotomy. Good luck to you...

Hi Everybody - WOW this is a GREAT place for info!! Thanks! I had a minimally invasive BAV replacement 8 days ago. My sternum wasn't cut at all. My incision is about one inch to the right of the sternum and is about a 4 inch cut across my right pec. Still having pain in my right shoulder...

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

LOVE this thread! I was surprised that I don't remember anything after I got two IVs in my arm in the holding/getting ready room and the anesthesiologist said he was going to give me something to relax. BOOM I was out! That I only remember them taking out the breathing tube and nothing right...

    Not such good results

Hi Paleogirl - I just had my BAV replacement surgery done on April 1, 2011. I had the minimally invasive procedure which didn't involve my sternum at all. Can you check with your cardiologist to see if this is a possibility in your area? I briefly remember them removing my breathing tube but...
