    warfarin and dizziness

Thanks Pellicle, Actually she has a physio because of a bad back. No falls. Just rush to prepare dinner and probably did some bending up and down at the kitchen. The dizzy spell just hit her. She has to lie down and avoid looking at the floor :) Hope it goes away soon. I did not check her BP.

    Size of replacement valve

All the best Anne, the doctors will find the right valve size. My wife, Asian, also is of small frame. She has calcified BAV- EF also good by high pressure gradient. Three years ago, at age 60, she had AVR - got a St Jude 19mm, smallest size available according to the surgeon. Merry Xmas and a...

    warfarin and dizziness

My wife is on warfarin for three years now, with INR 2.8 (she has AVR and therapeutic range is 2 to 3). She has a sudden feeling of dizziness. Is that indicative of bleeding ?? But I cannot find any bruises. Thanks

describe your intake of greens and how important you think it is

Sometimes INR is done by venous and sometimes by finger prick. I have noted INR tests up to 0.5 higher for finger prick tests within a week of a venous test even though diet pretty much the same. To avoid too frequent puncturing of the veins, my wife goes for finger pricks in between venous but...

    warfarin and hemorrhoids/piles

My wife had some bright red blood together bowel movements, bleeding stops very quickly. She has hemorrhoids (piles). I wonder if this was aggravated by warfarin she is taking or is this a more serious condition and require a trip to the doctor??

    Yikes

I remember, my wife was on 2mg upon hospital discharge. But INR keeps dropping. Probably due to stopping of hospital medication and increased of activity after discharge. She is now on borderline INR 2.0. we are thinking to add Omega3 as supplement - any comments from the old timers out there??

    Managing stairs after the surgery

My wife only started stairs after 4 weeks post Op. I think it all depends on the physical condition of each individual. But, should be very careful not to hurry and miss a step and fall. Please take a step at a time and be careful.

Small Valve, Big BSA - Issues?

I am chipping in when this issue is COLD. It seems we should not look at the manufacurer's chart anymore post surgery. Is isn't the orifice area as measured by echo divided by the BSA should determined the iEOA index?? After implant, the gradients and velocity are the true measurements. If the...

Consumer Reports now rates Thoracic Surgery Groups

Such disclosures and risks of lawsuits keep professionals on their toes, but may also be counterproductive. Such info should be subject to peer review and restricted to fellow professionals like cardiologists who are tasked with referral of patients ????

BAVs - is there a hereditary factor?

uhmm, i suppose echo test would identify if one has BAV. But if identified, there is still nothing one can do except worry which may be negative. Or maybe that person can do something positive like more exercising, more Vit K and more Omega 3?? And btw, a word of caution about Omega 3, I know...

Sleeping on the side post op

My wife used to sleep on the side. But post op., switched to normal with two pillows and under one to raise her feet:) We were told raising the feet promotes better circulating of the blood from the feet. Nice to note her previous slight feet swellings have gone with four weeks post op.
