    Thanks for all the help!

Hi Nancy, Lynlw is right - had my surgery in early June and I couldn't be better now. I've been meaning to update my recovery but it seems that life got in the way! In fact about 4 weeks ago I finished cardio rehab and rewarded myself with an 18 mile backcountry Ozark hike complete with 35...

    Disappointed with my progress

Eli, I’m now about 7 weeks post op and I’m still limited in what I can do. By far the most frustrating part of this whole experience has been the recovery. You’re close to my age (I’m 38) and for me it has been a struggle to ask for help with common chores around the house – lawn mowing, home...

    Pacer leads still in...Ouch!

My leads were pulled two days post op and I was definitely on Heparin. The surgeon warned me there was a 1 in 1000 chance (seems that every risk they explained to me carried those odds!) that they may have to re-operate if pulling the leads caused internal bleeding. As a precaution he ordered...

Happy to be over the hill

I hear you Steve! I have to say now a month post-op I'm feeling GREAT. Still have a bit of discomfort but I'm really beginning to get my strength and stamina back. I've been released to return to work on the 5th so we'll see how well I do at my desk job. One of the concerns I had prior to my...

    Post-op pain & pills

Hi Danjayh, I had my AVR on June 1st with a full sternotomy. While I was in the hospital on the ICU floor I was on Dilaudid every 30 minutes. Once I was moved to the step down unit I was given a combination of Oxycodone and Tylenol every 6 hours. When I left the hospital on June 5th I had a...

Happy to be over the hill

Well now about three weeks post op, I can say that it will still take me some time to get back to normal! I still typically take a nap once a day which helps with the energy level. I'm quite surprised how quickly I tire out. Guess it's just my attempt to get back to some kind of "normal"...

    Post Operation question

I'm about 3 weeks post op from AVR and the only pain I still have from surgery (besides the incisions which are nearly healed) is a deep dull/sharp pain to the left of my sternum. It does seem to get worse the more I try to do physically so I've been trying to hold back and not overdo it too...

Happy to be over the hill

Hi every one! Wanted to say thanks for all the pre-op wishes and to let all know I'm back at home after a 4 day hospital stay. What an experience to go through! It was planned to have my ascending aorta and aortic valve replaced but the doctor was able to repair the ascending aorta saving...

    Thanks for all the help!

Big day tomorrow! In the hospital now, had my cardiac cath and all looks good. Certainly do NOT like hearing of all the complications that could occur but it is to be expected. Hope to make my move to the post op forum sometime this week once I become lucid! Confirmed my valve choice, an...

    June 7th

Jen, I'm scheduled to go in on June 1st. Looks like June is going to be a busy month for many of us. Like you, I've had many thoughts race through my mind. For me, now that I've made my decisions as to type of valve, surgeon, hospital, etc. I found that focusing on recovery helps keep the...

    Thanks for all the help!

Superbob - I am! In fact I was at the game last night. Had to get one more game in before surgery. Steve - I'm more of a Fritz's guy than Ted Drew's - only because it's closer to the house. Seems the whole Super Smoker's chain is in retreat. Not too many around the area any more - which is...

    Thanks for all the help!

Everyone - Thanks for the well wishes. I'm certain I'll come through this without too much trouble; to be honest what I'm most interested in is how I’ll feel post-op and post-recovery. I really don’t believe I have any symptoms now – the physical dimensions of my enlarged heart are prompting...

    Thanks for all the help!

Just wanted to take some time and express my thanks to everyone on the forum. I’ve been lurking since late last year trying to come to terms with my own aortic valve/aortic root replacement surgery scheduled on June 1st. It is a great comfort to hear all of the success stories out there – as...
