Any experience with Prinzmetal's (variant) angina ??

I'm self diagnosing here, but I've been having these vague feelings of pressure since my AVR surgery last May. A few times per week I would have these, and feel a slight pressure and uncomfortable anxious feeling (best description, like running your nails down a chalkboard). A few nights ago...

Hi Colleen, Thanks very much for your post and your advice. I had done a bit of reading on the subject prior to my surgery and came to pretty much the same opinion as you have now. My wife and I decided not to take the chance and become a double valve patient with the RP, when my only reasons...

Should I switch from Lipitor to Zocor??

Thanks Mike :) I think I look better than I actually feel in that pic, but the drugs were good I can tell you that , ha ha! Thanks for the well wishes, yes I am feeling better all the time. -Pat

Should I switch from Lipitor to Zocor??

Thanks again all! I saw my Dr today and he had no problem with keeping me on Lipitor, so I was relieved. Problem solved....for now anyway :)

Should I switch from Lipitor to Zocor??

Thanks Philip, will do. I must have missed that one somehow. Thanks for the input Pat. Don't get me wrong, I'm not putting simvastatin down I just feel real comfortable with Lipitor and feel it's a bad time to switch. I probably wouldn't even notice the transition, but I don't want to find...

Should I switch from Lipitor to Zocor??

Thank you both for the input. If simvastatin was the generic for Lipitor, I would have no problem with the switch. I read somewhere that a generic for Lipitor will likely be available sometime in 2011.

Should I switch from Lipitor to Zocor??

I've been taking 20 mg of Lipitor for about 8 years now with very good results and no noticable side effects. My new primary care physician wrote a new prescription for my mail order pharmacy and when I recieved the medicine they had replaced my Lipitor with the generic Simvastatin. I haven't...

    I'm a newbie...and worried I won't have the operation in time!

Oh, and if you want your picture (nice pic BTW) to appear with your posts, go to "settings" in the upper right of the screen, then to "edit avatar" in the menu at left. I chose to upload a pic from my computer, but there are at least a couple options there. Good luck :)

    I'm a newbie...and worried I won't have the operation in time!

Wow Valerie! That's quite a story. My aorta was .7 cm^2 just before my surgery, quite a bit more room than yours and I was just starting to feel funny. But I had been being followed closely by my Drs for several years, so not really a surprise for me. I'm very glad to hear your on the other...

why do they have to do the heart cath?

Hi Angel, I'm one of the "several" that Andy mentions above. I wasted way too much energy worrying about all the tests and the surgery. Don't get me wrong, it's tough to go through but not nearly as bad as I had envisioned. In my opinion, you really want your docs to do all the testing possible...

    Post-Op update, 24 days...

Thanks! I like your picture too (your hot!) Yes, my boys (8 and 5) play with it constantly, in fact when I need it I usually can't find it, lol. Although I'm sorry to hear your having the arm pains too, it's nice to hear someone else has the same problem. And yes, at times it has been worse...

Hi buncle, Yes, I'll make do with the aches and pains for now, but unfortunately for my wife I like to complain, ha ha! Everyone has signed my pillow, like a cast. Kinda cool. I never got cookies :( Thanks for your post! -Pat

    Post-Op update, 24 days...

I have talked with the surgeon about my arm/body pains. They recommended Motrin until it resolves. So I make sure I take it with a meal. It's the only thing that works that I've tried. The Oxycodone I've been taking won't help even at high doses. I've not tried a heating pad though surprisingly...

    Post-Op update, 24 days...

Thanks for the welcome! Yeah It's sure is a relief to be on this side of surgery. I can't believe the amount of energy I wasted worrying about this. Not that it's been easy, but it was much much worse in my minds eye. I'm also looking forward to reducing my "pillage". I'm interested to see if...

Hi nngbwh, Nope, no Superman here, lol. More like Super-slow-man! Yes, I'm basically on vacation at this point, although I have worked on my computer for a few hours each day over the last several days. Just trying to catch up on the easy stuff, and line up some work for when I'm back to...

Wow, so many great posts! I think I'll respond to each separately. Hi Larry, Yes, the trade is a no-brainer, ha ha! I'm taking it slow, my wife won't let me do otherwise. I have my follow up appointment with the surgeon on Wed 6/16, immediately followed by a visit to my new cardiologist at BWH...

    Post-Op update, 24 days...

Hi all, Just thought I'd let everyone know how I've made out so far. A little recap for those who don't know me, I was diagnosed with BAV at an early age and was told it probably wouldn't need attention until my 50's, if at all. Well here I am at 42 on the other side of AVR surgery due to...

Choosing either the On-X or St. Jude Regent...opinions?

Hi Andy, My surgeon says he wan'ts my INR from 1.5-2.5. Yesterday it was 1.6, so it looks like their shooting for the low end of the scale. I kinda thought they'd try more for the middle, but I know the first several weeks can be tough to nail the numbers. I'm doing well! My surgery was on 5/20...

    Postponed surgery, update

Thanks again all! Malibu, I know it's hard to do, but try to keep thinking of all the good things that will come from this. I think about more energy to play with my children, a healthier lifestyle, and just getting on with the life that has been pushed aside for the last few months. I know the...
