    i'm getting really scared!

Jackie I know it seems overwhelming but it is not as bad as it seems. I had an aneurism and bicuspid valve. I am now 14 weeks out and it seems like it is yesterday. I have two young girls and was concerned about not being able to hold/pick them up as well. It isn't like you cant sit and hug...

    My upcoming surgery--words of wisdom?

I went through the same thing in February. Everyone has given great advice. All I can say is everyone is different. Mine fortunately couldn't have been any smoother. I walked out of the hospital 5 days later, was walking 5 miles a day within a week, driving and back to work part time in 4. Now...

How was your memory after OHS?

I am 2 months out and although physically I feel well, mentally I am definitely not there yet. Short term memory is not great and I sometimes have trouble concentrating for periods of time. I do think it is getting better though little by little Nick

    Any musicians out there?

I had the same operation 7 weeks ago and play guitar. I was playing as soon as I got home. It was a good way to pass the time. The only thing I couldn't do was carry and amp. Depending on your fitness, you will be playing if you have someone take care of the gear. Nick

Is this too much after 6 weeks

Martin, I am at 7 weeks post op. Regarding swimming, my surgeon had told be to wait until after 8 weeks. The reason was the healing of the breast plate. He didn't want it to loosen that would lead to arthritis etc. This was the same reason he restricted other activities until 8 weeks. There...

When is it safe after surgery to start.....?

I was two weeks. Release papers did say something about as long as you can walk up a flight of stairs. Not sure or the comparison.

First Echo post AVR/ Lack of communication.

James, I had my follow up appointments with the surgeon and cardiologist 3 weeks after. I had an echo then and the cardiologist reviewed it right in front of me. I am not sure what is typical but it seemed to make sense to me that they would want to take a look sooner instead of later. The...

    Having surgery soon!!! **HELP**

I had my surgery a month ago as well. I was walking 4-5 miles a week later. I am a little more that an hour away from the hospital and the car ride was a non issue. I have a recliner that I used during the day but slept in bed with a wedge pillow. Nick

    pre-op tests?

I just has an aortic aneurism and aortic valve repair Feb 4 at Weill Cornell in NYC. I had to have blood test ekg etc. no more than 15 days prior. I was given a cardiac cath the day before the surgery and admitted right after. My recommendation would be to call the surgeons office and they will...
