Hey Mike,
you're home and healing? That's good. Heidi and i went by your house the other night but we were on our way to dinner with friends and couldn't stop. Let me know when your doc says beer is ok. A buddy of mine just opened a pub on Dartmouth street. Allow me to get the first round!
Glad...
I'm sorry to hear about the wait and all the tension before they finally got her in the OR. I know you must be and will be exhausted for a while. My wife pretty much kept me sane for the first couple of days just by showing up and baby-ing the hell out of me. When we got home her amazing care...
Best of luck to Jim. I hope his experience is as easy as mine. The vent was uncomfortable but I only had it in for half an hour after i woke up. When they pulled it, I felt great, Never got sick or threw up or anything like that.
I'm sorry I just missed his PM... I wish i could have told him...
I got a heart pillow from the hospital but it was too soft. I used a nice firm throw pillow and that worked well. I tried , briefly, to convince my good wife to allow me access to her ample bosom (Purely for medical reasons) but she did that eye-rolling thing she always does.
You want to...

Good luck! Everything you're nervous about, your nurses and doctors will go to great pains to minimize. It really is easily managed. Just don't eat the breakfast "omelet". It's not food, it's something else.... something evil.
Best wished from me and Heidi.
David
ps take your meds!
Sweet mother of mercy!!
Suppositories???? Bedpans???? No, dude THAT ain't right! Truly!!
I count my blessings. The food was so dismal that I didn't really eat anything but fresh fruit for the entire time I was there. When I did finally go I was , despite a few tubes and wires, autonomous enough...
Jeez!
I really lucked out because I didn't have the slightest problem with gas. In fact, potty-wise, i had a very uneventful stay in the hospital. Nothing really happened until the third day and when it did, it was a normal everyday run of the mill kinda thing. Too much info? Sorry!
David
Hey Lil teach
the cath is nothing. I spoke to Mike and he's against it on principle, but trust me - i had one right before my AVR and i fell asleep during the procedure. They doped me up pretty good (you can request that they do this if you're nervous) but it didn't really kick in til after it...
I just realized...In the hospital, I was SOOOOO Jonesing for a grilled cheese, on a baguette with both gruyere and asiago.... Gawd I would have given anything for it!!
Sincei got home, I've had yogurt and fruit every morning, cheese and artisinal bread from Pain D'Avignon on the cape every day...
Jane!
So good to hear you're coming along. your son was indeed fantastic about communicating. I hope you can now start healing by leaps and bounds!
BTW, I talked to Mike yesterday and he seems pretty confident. I hope all goes well for him too.
Congratulations!
You did great!
David
Hey all
It's good to hear from y'all and to see so many of my buds are doing well post op. I wanted to just make a couple of points a bit clearer..
First off, the ICU nurses are the most amazing people on earth. You cannot thank them enough. I literally cried when I left for the step down unit...

Hey Tom.
It's a big post but I want to demystify this. i know some people have a hell of a time of it, but statistically, most people do Ok. Even with some bumps in the road, I was lucky enough to have it easy!
Hey Kim!!
Yeah, I've been LAZY for the last couple of weeks. I also had some family...
Well! Open Heart Surgery!! It certainly has been FUN! Like a vacation where everyone waits on you hand and foot!
Now, I’ve been out of touch for a week or so just because I’ve been too sleepy to do anything like writing.
I had to stay on my butt for a while and pretty much sleep the last...
Welcome home!
After the first week, stairs are easy.
Heidi and i have been going to Target - not to shop, just to walk in a warm, flat place.
There are stairs outside too. After a week of that, I feel great.
Good luck to you.
David
