Sore bump after diangostic cardiac catheter

I had a pseudoaneurysm after my cath. I had pain in the area and it was actually a little difficult to walk. I waited for my follow up thinking the pain was normal. They had to do an echo on the area, and I was sent to the ER immediately. I was seen by a vascular surgeon, who gave me a...

Serial MRI's Accuracy in Following Aortic Aneurysms

I have been going for anual CT scans after my ascending aorta was repaired two years ago. I asked the nurse practitoner after my last one about a different test due to the amount of radiation used in the CT. She told me that I could go for a MRI, and that my surgeon would have no problem...

    Surgeons in NJ

Hi and welcome, all three major hospitals in Bergen (Hackensack, Englewood, and Valley) are very good and your cardio should be able to direct you to a good CT surgeon. My cardio is out of Hackensack, but I was told to head to NYP -Cornell in the city and see Dr. Girardi, who I used. If your...

    Attention Ross Procedure Patients

Bryan, Sorry to hear about what's going on, I met with Dr. Stelzer when I was considering the Ross and almost went with that procedure. I thought he was a great guy and respect his opinion. I am curious if what he wrote you is similar to what he told me when I asked about dialation with the...

    Out of Toprol

Didn't someone post a little while back that there was a recall or something with metoprolol? I renewed my prescription, but they gave toprol instead of the metoprolol. They said they were out of the generic.

    Columbia-Presbyterian NYC surgeons?

Robin. I had my surgery at New York Presbyterian - Cornell, my surgeon was Dr. Len Girardi and I would highly recommend him. If she is high risk for surgery, either Columbia or Cornell have the trials with the valve replacement through catherization like what Lynlw said.

    Gained Weight - My Dad

I know I gained weight, but I also was forcing food down my throat right after surgery to get my strength back. Once I got home and was able to become more active, it all came off plus some extra pounds. If he is not as active as he was prior and eating alot, he is going to gain. Like everyone...

Hi Scott, I just had my BAV and ascending aorta replaced, my surgeon told me after 12 weeks I go unrestricted. I also asked him about developing aneurysms in other parts of the aotra or if the graft will last. He told me don't worry about the graft, it will last longer then you (i'm 37), and as...

Opinions on tissue vs mechanical aortic valves

I'm 37 and just had an Edwards Lifescieces bovine valve put in, about 2 weeks ago. I chose the tissue valve because I could not go on coumadine right now. I know its tough and you keep second guessing yourself, but you will get through it. Best of luck with your decision. Nick

    Good to be home.

I was released from the hospital on Monday, surgery went well, they did find an aneurysm on my aortic root, and repaired it. Now just walking and taking it easy for the next few weeks and listening to my dog bark, the kids fight and my wife yelling at them all to be quite (its good to be...

Life of the Carpentier Edwards Perimount Valve

Hi Simon, I'm going on Wednesday to have my aortic valve replaced with the Edwards bovine valve, I'm 37 and my surgeon feels that I should get 12 years out of it, give or take. What was encouraging and also talked about was on this forum is replacing the valves through a heart cath. Again, my...

    Surgery date set.

After spending weeks changing my mind like I change my pants, between the Ross procedure and going with a tissue valve, I finally made a decesion. Dr. Girardi will replace my BAV with a bovine valve on January 21st. I was leaning for a while to go with Dr. Stelzer and the Ross, but I was...

    New to forum

Hi Scott and thanks for your reply, I believe Dr. Stelzer's re-op rates are about the same, if you go to his web sit, he has address it. One thing that he did say was that they started to reinforce the root and other areas that have caused problems in the past. I would probably consider a...
