    5 months post-surgery -- thumping heart beat

Yeah, I'm still loud, but not all the time. I'm healing all right, and can exercise moderately. Some nights I sleep like a champ. Other nights. . . ?I do love melatonin, and have for years.

    5 months post-surgery -- thumping heart beat

Hi Jase, One artery. As they were putting me back together, one side of my heart was struggling. They believed it to be a "kink" in the coronary artery, so they had to do a bypass. Glad they did. I don't know how much it affected my recovery, but I was walking over a mile within 3 weeks...

    Unusually LOUD heartbeat

My docs said it's normal. When I asked if it would quiet after the pericardium healed, I was informed that the pericardium would never heal, but that I would likely get used to the thump.

    5 months post-surgery -- thumping heart beat

I needed a bypass for the coronary artery. I am at six months & I can do much much of everything I was capable of doing prior to surgery. Currently working on endurance & on trusting my body to be resilient under pressure/exertion.

    Unusually LOUD heartbeat

Yes. I'm dealing with this as well. The loud thump is not constant. Sometimes, the heart is calm except for the ticking. But when it chooses to thump, it's the kind of thump that makes it near-impossible to sleep. Not sure if it's a stress & anxiety thing, or a...

    5 months post-surgery -- thumping heart beat

Hi all, I continue to recover well and most of my life has returned to normal. I work full-time, make music, write, cook, eat whatever, walk daily, and go to the gym twice per week to lift weights (30 pounds or fewer till I hit the 6 month mark) and use the elliptical. One thing that...

mechanical or tissue valve and an active lifestyle?

I'm ten weeks out of surgery. Mechinical valve. My diet is the same. I watch my consumption of alcohol, but that's a good idea anyway. I walk everyday and last week I walked 15000 steps one day and 18500 steps three days later. I am starting to rebuild my core with squats. Soon I will start...

Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

I am six weeks out of surgery and I get the aura about 4x per week. It does not last for long and it does not turn into a migraine (though I have a history of migraines). I associate it with muscle tension, as I am still unable to exercise my upper body, but the aura is often triggered when I...

    Post-Surgery Anxiety

Update: Having visited with my cardiologist and having begun cardiac rehab, I am gaining confidence that my body is getting better, and my anxiety is beginning to wane. I am almost at the six week marker post-surgery and excited about the possibility of a stronger & more resilient heart!

    Post-Surgery Anxiety

Having someone to talk to who actually listens and empathizes is crucial. I’ve also been blessed in having a community of support. In lieu of God, my community has stood by me and made me feel like it’s OK to take time to heal.
