Mechanical Valve Noise and Quality of Life Study

I wouldn't say the "light thunking" I'm feeling is driving me mad or anything, just more concerned that it's normal or not. I'm still pretty new to this whole deal. Overall not really worried though, it is what it is. I guess it's just that all you ever hear people saying is that they can hear...

Mechanical Valve Noise and Quality of Life Study

Just wanted to chime in with a response. I've only had my on-x valve for 8 days, but the last couple of days it seems like I can feel the valve clicking when I take a deep breath, but so far, I can't hear it. Anyone else *feel* their valve?

    New here, getting Ross procedure

Thanks superman, great info and advice. After reading just a little bit here, I think that self testing will allow me to keep my inr above 2.0.

Yeah I'm taking 25 mg of metoprolol a day. They were talking about an inr of 1.5-2.0 after several months. Does that not work out for the on-x valve, even though that's what they say? I have to read some more around here about all of this. I also saw my regular doctor today and she is going...

    New here, getting Ross procedure

I would like to eventually. I need to figure out if insurance will pay for the meter, but either way it looks like you can buy them fairly reasonably. Right now they want me at 2.0-3.0 and I got tested today and I was 2.5. So at least nothing is too out of whack.

    New here, getting Ross procedure

OP here. Well after reading everything here and following good advice, I got my on-x valve last Tuesday. I got home yesterday afternoon. There were some complications though, when cutting out the old valve some of the calcification got into one of my coronary arteries. But they didn't realize...

    New here, getting Ross procedure

I haven't had it yet and may change my mind after reading everything here. It's not just about the warfarin to me, there's something about having a mechanical device in my body also. It just seems so unnatural. I'll admit I'm still grappling with all of this. Okay go ahead and flame away on me...

    New here, getting Ross procedure

Just curious, had you been a good candidate for the Ross, would you have done it?

I think the ozaki procedure would be even riskier than the Ross.

Yeah I remember him talking about tavr, but I honestly don't remember what he said, alot of information to take in. I feel like since I'm in pretty good health otherwise I'm a good candidate for the Ross. This whole process it seems is about tradeoffs, mechanical valve, blood thinners, tissue...

    Ross procedure complete

Hi Pan, I am scheduled for Ross procedure December 13th. Such a hard decision to make on what type of valve to go with. I realize it hasn't been very long, but would you suggest the Ross having gone through it?

I think that all in all, there can be complications or great outcomes no matter what you do. It's just a crap shoot.

    New here, getting Ross procedure

Yeah it's a tough decision to make, there just isn't a great option for this intervention, period. I've done a TON of research on this and it looks to me like if the Ross is done by an experienced surgeon the outcome nowadays is pretty good. That said, I also feel like the surgeons are selling...

    New here, getting Ross procedure

Hi, my name is Tom, new member obviously. I was diagnosed with a bicuspid valve in my early 20's, now 54, and the stenosis has now gotten to the point of severe. I was originally going to get a mechanical valve but I just cannot accept the fact of being on blood thinners the rest of my life. So...
