    Foldax Continues

Looks very promising! Wonder how long it’ll be before we’re seeing it in widespread use (assuming it continues to pass all its trials)…

    Foldax Continues

This ^ I thought the whole point of foldax was that warfarin wasn’t needed?

Doctor never seems concerned about my blood pressure, weird?

Not to sound rude, but being overweight directly correlates with high BP. Given you’re on BP meds, I imagine your BP would be considerably lower if you lost a little excess weight.

    Foldax Continues

I was just curious is all. I think a lot of people (myself included) would prefer to have a valve without the need for lifelong blood thinners. Whilst they do indeed offer lifelong durability, they certainly carry some drawbacks too, which is why I imagine a lot of people who know they’ll...

    Foldax Continues

What’s the earliest this valve could be ready for use in the general population? When do you think the trials will be over?

Weight lifting with valve and aneurysm replacement

Nice! Seems like you’ve got a pretty decent routine there…like I said, I’m mainly doing full body compound stuff three times a week (Bench, OHP, Squat, Bodyweight Rows) but I would like to add a few more isolation exercises. I agree, I’ll probably steer clear of deadlifting, and I don’t do...

Weight lifting with valve and aneurysm replacement

What kind of lifts you doing? I’ve been keeping it fairly simple with compound movements really, but looking to add some more. Are there any you think we should steer clear of or is anything pretty much good to go?

Weight lifting with valve and aneurysm replacement

Agreed, I don’t even think about it anymore in honesty. I do what I think is sensible (still sticking to higher rep sets e.g 15-20) and not doing one rep maxes, but that’s more or less it. The weight has obviously gone up over time as I’ve built muscle and got stronger. I also agree with the...

Weight lifting with valve and aneurysm replacement

Love it! Have been lifting again for a couple of weeks now mixed with running, loving starting to feel fit again 😁

Weight lifting with valve and aneurysm replacement

I’m no doctor, but I *think* the difference is down to the way the failure point is reached rather than the actual failure itself. Going for a 1RP will cause a sudden, huge rise in BP, or going from 0-100, so to speak. Reaching failure on your 20th rep means that you’ve had a much more...

Weight lifting with valve and aneurysm replacement

Glad you’ve endeavored to keep up with the training - I’ve recently decided to starting lifting again after my aneurysm fix and whilst the light weights aren’t ideal, I’ve realized after a bit of research over the last few weeks you can still build muscle by lifting light. Your situation seems...

    Weightlifting w/Bentnall procedure

I’ve just read through all the thread of your experience and holy f*ck mate, you’ve certainly been through the ringer. Very sobering reading all that, and made me feel very lucky that I haven’t had any trouble post-op. I’ll definitely bear that in mind in future…trust me I don’t want to have...

    Weightlifting w/Bentnall procedure

Hey man! Yeah that’s no problem, when I reread I realized that I’d done a typo, I’m hoping that I can get at least 10 years but if I get slightly less than it is what it is I guess haha. To be honest I’m kinda hoping that by the time I need it replacing again I can get a foldax one...

    Weightlifting w/Bentnall procedure

Yeah, that’s kinda the way I figured it. My doc has assured me that the mechanical valve can be fitted through keyhole surgery so I won’t have to go through another massive operation where my sternum is split in half again. Definitely two and done though, I’ll be happy for the next operation...

    Weightlifting w/Bentnall procedure

Thanks @pellicle @Chuck C - I should've added my cardiologist said at least 10-15 years not at least 15, please excuse the typo. I’ve got quite a new valve implanted and also the valve I have is quite large (29mm) and according to my cardiologist larger valves tend to last longer, but rest...

    Weightlifting w/Bentnall procedure

Hi everyone! First time poster here, male, 27 years old. I’ve just passed the one year mark since I had my aortic valve and ascending aorta replaced via a Bentnall procedure. My valve was severely regurgitating, and my ascending aorta was dilated the point where surgery was essentially a...
