Heart valve surgery and male impotency.

I hear this! I was emotional before my first surgery and after having two in less than 9 months I'm even more so. I try to keep the emotions in check, but another OHS friend once said, "no one will ever understand what you've been through unless they have endured it themselves".

Open Heart surgeries and Neurological problems

I agree. I've been very proactive about my care and question Drs when it comes to various issues. In this case I felt awful on Keppra when first taking it. They put you on a twice a day dose of 750mg. I immediately went from a happy person to depressed, sad, and very hopeless. Since decreasing...

    Tooth Extraction

I agree! I will need a hip replacement at some point. The Dr said, wait as long as you can.

Open Heart surgeries and Neurological problems

I think too many meds have many poor effects. That's why I've been somewhat dosing myself on Keppra. It made me so depressed initially

Open Heart surgeries and Neurological problems

Yes, she said for Grand Mal seizures I am well below the recommended dose. Unfortunately, all they see is the seizures and when there's no evidence of where they're coming from they keep you on the medication. I'm the one weaning down the drug. I told her I was.

    Tooth Extraction

Hi All! I wanted to thank you for your input on the tooth extraction. It went very smoothly on July 6th. I took a week of antibiotics before the procedure and 5 days following. The oral surgeon was able to place an implant the same day, which thrilled me since I didn't want to return. This is my...

Open Heart surgeries and Neurological problems

I have had two open heart surgeries in less than 9 months last year. Born with a Bicuspid Aortic Valve and then an aneurysm of 4.5 I had the first surgery November 29, 2021. I had Grand Mal seizure on April 30, 2022 and they did EKG, MRI, etc. I got a blood infection in May 2022 and had to...

    Tooth Extraction

Hi, Thank you for the information and articles. I'm shocked about Moriarty. I agree on the INR and lowering it. Thankfully, I've had extractions before. It's hard to believe I have nice teeth with all the issues I've had. Before OHS, St. Jude, due to Bicuspid Aortic Valve and aneurysm having a...

    Tooth Extraction

I can imagine! That's why I figured I'd check in with the experts. I'm having a molar extracted and hope it's an easy removal. Years ago I had a tooth removed and fragments of the tooth had to be dug out causing a divot in the gum tissue. I hope it's not that much of a nightmare. Thank you for...

    Tooth Extraction

It makes sense to drop the INR down to 2.0. I usually stay at 2.5, which is the clinics magic number for me. It's a molar so hopefully there won't be too much bleeding, but we'll see 🙏🏻

    Tooth Extraction

Yes, I always pre-medicate before the dentist even if they're just looking. After what I went through last year with the blood infection and two open heart surgeries I don't take any chances. I'm sure the oral surgeon will have me on antibiotics for a few days, perhaps a week after the...

    Tooth Extraction

Yes, I have had to do this before so I'll see if the coumadin clinic recommends doing so. Thank you!

    Tooth Extraction

Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate it! I think I'll be all set with an INR of 2.5 and will get the oral surgeon's recommendations on antibiotics after the procedure.

    Tooth Extraction

Thank you for your feedback. I figured based on what I've read that it was ok. I usually keep my INR at 2.5 so it should be ok.

    Tooth Extraction

Hello Everyone! I am likely going to need a tooth extraction next week due to a vertical and horizontal fracture of a molar. My cardiologist doesn't think I need to be concerned about dropping my INR down. The Coumadin Clinic I go to hasn't made any recommendations either, but I'll get more...

    Warfarin without Coumadin clnic

Maybe ask your Coumadin Clinic to do what mine allows a check every three months. As long as you provide them weekly or bi-weekly numbers they allow a visit every three months.
