    27 M aortic valve replacement

If you go full OHS with mechanical valve, 27 seems like a good age! I did it at 43 in good athletic shape and recovered pretty well. Finding an expert surgeon and a world-class heart center will help alleviate the concern. Once I did that, my anxiety really decreased.

    Heart Rate Variation

Closing this out with a summary of TEE findings , followed by : my thoughts/questions -Septal dyssynchrony : Meaning left to right ventricle not correctly phased in time ... I suppose this could be improved with a 2nd V lead -R Ventricle mildly dilated : The pacemaker lead for pacing the V is...

AVR need to do my 1st Colonoscopy, freaking out.

My primary care Dr presented me data from studies that concluded if someone does annual poop tests, then the ability to detect colon cancer is just as good as colonoscopy. So I'm doing this plan ! I could try to dig out the studies if you want.

    Fun evening interrupted

Seems we're in a similar boat at the moment. After a year of no Afib, I had a few weeks of high HR, low HR, skipped beat... No change in treatment... just went back to 'normal' after a few weeks. Have some travel to Euro zone and India/Thailand coming up. Fingers crossed for us both.

    Heart Rate Variation

Hi, nothing changed regarding diet or meds. Been eating a little cleaner , so was wondering if sodium was low, but that was ruled out. Update 1: After 2-3 weeks of irregular pacing, I have had the last 3 days with no noticeable issues. So, local Cardiologist advises to stay the course for a...

New BAV dx and super scared :(

Also bifurcated AV with mild regurg also for me when I was 40. ... Sharing some 'random' thoughts that hopefully you will find useful or help in a different perspective: It's great your GP heard the murmur --- I bet this was missed during many previous visits to the Dr ! Now you are under...

    Heart Rate Variation

Hmm, I see now it is more like 3-6% for Aortic valve replacement.... On a positive note, this has really been my only problem 6 years post surgery. Warfarin management and a clicking mechanical valve are non-issues.

Mental confusion after intense exercise? Anyone experience this with mechanical valve?

Interesting. Still have some propofol in your system :-) ?

    Heart Rate Variation

From what I've read, it is the physical install of the valve into that part of the heart. 30% of the time, this causes permanent signal blocking of the pacing signal from the atria to ventricle

    Heart Rate Variation

Been having some issues with different modes of heart rate pacing. Missed beats, going into Afib, heart rate too slow.... too fast. Interested in any resources to help read up here. My original pacing issue is full heart block from mech aortic valve replacement , resulting in pacemaker for...

    Howdy - AVR coming up!

Hi Tim, I was in almost your exact shoes 4 1/2 years ago. I'll mention that with sufficient education and convincing yourself you are doing the right thing with the best possible providers, it will alleviate your nerves. At least for me, I was calmed by that. Only thing I would have done...

    Pacemaker!

Great info here from Vitdoc and others. I also do not understand why the EPs are reluctant to propose bi-ventricular pacing. I've been discussing this with my EP as well, and we decided to consider it seriously when my battery dies in 10 years. My Ejection fraction is normal/good, but I'm...

    Pacemaker!

I understand now a significant % of mechanical aortic valve replacement recipients experience heart block. I'm still at 100% block after 4 years, and so have been paced 100% of beats since then with my Boston Latitude L331. I'm 46 and very active. I hit my 180BPM upper limit often (which cuts...

    Imminent AVR - 40 y.o. female - advice please

Hi Amy, welcome. I'll share my experiences to help provide perspective: I transitioned from mild to severe in a short time frame, as well, and had very similar input from my local Cardiologist - i.e. "get it done soon"... general directional advice which was too general for me. Via word of...

Questionable Echocardiogram report - Ever have this something like this???

It's like we need to keep our own personal med records & have a PCP in the room with us if we are in the hospital or @specialist...

Aortic valve repair or replacement, early 2020

Does it seems archaic to anyone else that the typical way to detect non-symptomatic heart valve issues is for a semi-qualified PCP to listen to the chest ? Seems like a 50/50 chance to have a physician that can actually hear a murmur (and do all valve issues 'murmur' ??). I don't like those...

    Just plain scared

0.5 to 2% of the population have BAV. So it is a huge number of people, and the medical industry can reliably address the problems since they so much practice! One thing that relieved my stress was when I looked into the eyes of the Surgeon and the staff, he and they were 100% convinced and...

High Heart Rate - Then Normal

I'm also looking for something I can wear for, say an entire day, and download HR data. I want a device that continuously samples and records heart beats vs averaging HR over the course of 5-10sec (which my apple watch seems to do). Sometimes when it's quiet (and also when I'm laying on my...
