Does anyone have any thoughts on the Ross Procedure?

Right Scott, I am 42 now and I need an AVR and Ascending aorta to be done shortly. I have been reading a lot about the Ross Procedure and I don't like the idea of living with a 2-valve risk. I also don't like the idea of being on warfarin forever not only because the need to be more careful but...

On-X vs. St Jude Mechanical valve

Hi Agian, Now it is pretty clear to me why my surgeon told me that for a certain outside diameter the St Jude had higher effective surface than the On-X. And it seems that more surface = better. Does anybody know why is that? Thank you!

On-X vs. St Jude Mechanical valve

I already posted this but I guess that this would be a better place: Having already chosen to go for the mechanical option for the Aortic Valve Graft Replacement I am basically looking at two alternatives: 1 - St Jude 2 - On-X I read about the possibility that the On-X can tolerate lower levels...

Optimal Self-Management Anticoagulation Therapy vs. Ross Procedure

Hi superman! Ha ha ha! Well, maybe one would not change the INR target but it is always good to know that if your INR happens to be below 2 (1.5-1.8) you are still at low risk of producing a clot. Thank you!

Just wondering why...

Optimal Self-Management Anticoagulation Therapy vs. Ross Procedure

Thank you all!! for some reason I can’t upload the picture of the chart I refer to. It seems I don’t have permission to upload pictures yet. It plots INR level (x axis) against events (y axis). It’s a U shape chart where the bottom of the U still shows events. Dick: your case is really amazing...

Optimal Self-Management Anticoagulation Therapy vs. Ross Procedure

Hi, thanks for your answer! Yes, I am trying to focus in good sources. In fact my 1-2% is from a chart from a journal that you mention in your blog! I will try to attach it for your reference. Hope it works! No, I don’t know what percentage of the year they were within range. Surely less than...

Optimal Self-Management Anticoagulation Therapy vs. Ross Procedure

Hi everybody, new in this forum. Need an AVR and Aoric root replacement. I am almost sure that I will go for the mechanical option but I am struggling with facts that shows that anticoagulated patients who manage to keep their INR within the safe zone still have a 1-2% annual risk of...
