Aortic valve regurgitation and anxiety - how to manage?

Wow, I am absolutely humbled that you would use the word "inspiring". I'm just a normal dude that has been inspired reading all the stories on here for years. People like you taking the time to encourage total strangers is inspiring. Thanks for taking the time to say those nice things and for...

BAV REPAIR at Mayo Clinic? ---Any data on this?

I don't blame you for trying to find a surgeon at Mayo since you live so close. How lucky are you to live close to such a great place! I had a BAV repair in July. I looked in to Mayo while Surgeon "shopping" and found the same thing. I just couldn't find much info about them doing repairs. I...

Thanks so much to everyone for the well wishes! Surgery went well. The bicuspid aortic valve repair was a success! I checked in the morning of the July 3rd and was discharged today, less than 5 days later. We'll be staying in a Cleveland hotel until Tuesday and then flying home to Colorado...

    Got My Date- July 3rd

It's funny you mention the 4th. I was actually hesitant scheduling surgery on the 3rd for fear that the staff will be grumpy working on the holiday. Would be even better if they had beer at the celebration and they could save me a few of those. :Face-Smirk:

    Got My Date- July 3rd

Thank you, Steve! I'm pretty sure you were in the waiting room when I joined shortly after getting diagnosed. It was so great to see you still active here when I started dropping back in again. You have always offered a positive and calming presence and the forum is lucky to have you. I see...

    Got My Date- July 3rd

Things just got real! After many years of anticipation, some anxiety, and countless hours of research, surgery is in the near near future. At times all these years in the waiting room have been challenging, although I've done my best not to let it consume me. Sometimes I've embraced the...

    Picking a Surgeon and Hospital

Thanks so much to both of you! I really appreciate you taking the time and sharing your experiences. So glad you are both doing well! At the beginning of this journey the thought of traveling cross country for a semi frequent procedure that can be done close to home wasn't even an option. The...

    Picking a Surgeon and Hospital

Hi All, I'm in the process of shopping for a surgeon/hospital to do my procedure. I'm 40 y/o BAV with severe AI and some symptoms. I live in Northern Colorado. I met with a surgeon at my local regional hospital who is ready to operate, but his choices seem limited. He obviously wants to put in...

    What Were Your Symptoms?

Thanks for responding. Sounds very similar. It's great to hear that you're feeling better! I really don't feel bad, but something feels a little off. As we all know the mind is powerful and I constantly find myself questioning every last weird feeling. It doesn't freak me out or slow me down. I...

    What Were Your Symptoms?

I'm glad you pushed the issue and are feeling better. I find myself going back and forth on whether to just get it fixed or wait as long as I can. I feel like my cardio would support waiting a little longer but the fact he had me meet with a surgeon tells me he is ready whenever I am. My...

Wow! Totally understandable why you would be aware of everything your body is telling you.

    What Were Your Symptoms?

I totally agree about the hearts ability to compensate. I think even over compensate, which may be causing some of my vague symptoms, like fatigue and weird chest sensations during recovery. I also agree with you about picking a time that works for me. It's inevitable that it needs to be fixed...

    What Were Your Symptoms?

Wow! Those are some symptoms! Did your CHF reverse itself and heart regain normal function?I would prefer to take care of things before I go in to full on heart failure. It really is a "dance" between figuring out when one is symptomatic. Also a dance figuring out when just the right time is for...

    What Were Your Symptoms?

Yes. BP has been fairly stable during normal activity. However, with heavy activity like fighting fire and working out it fluctuates quite a bit and doesn't recover as fast as it used to. Its still working really hard to compensate for the leak. I think it very well could be the culprit. Thanks...

Here we go. 7th open heart surgery @ Mayo Clinic April 26th

Awesome! Best of luck to you! Hoping for this to be a lifelong fix for you. Love your profile name! You should be all healed up in plenty of time to really celebrate back to back World Series Championships. I'm a huge Cubs fan myself. Moved away from IL when I was young but the Cubbies have...
