    Weird feelings

So I had my second heart op back in 2016 to replace my RV-PA conduit, my pulmonary valve with a homograft and my aortic valve with a mehanical carbomedics aortic valve. I've been fine since then apart from having these weird mental moments where I experience dejavu/weird 'oh I've dreamt that...

On-X vs. St Jude Mechanical valve

Mine is a Carbomedics Carboseal. I think they are very similar to St Judes? Not sure

Optimal Self-Management Anticoagulation Therapy vs. Ross Procedure

Consuming Warfarin takes me 3-5 seconds a day. Testing takes me less than a minute per week. Do I want a third invasive surgery? - Considering my liver took a slight hit and I was bleeding slightly more than the average, I can definitely say I don't want to! And it's become such a routine now...

Hospital refuse to prescribe me any Coaguchek XS Strips

My apologies for the late reply, also it seems I am unable to quite anyone's reply. Paleowoman - They've changed their policy yes, they want me to e-mail my INR results once every two months now as my INR is always in range, but they fail to realise that it's in range because of my weekly...

Sorry, I forgot to say they also said I shouldn't be testing weekly!

Hospital refuse to prescribe me any Coaguchek XS Strips

So here in the UK, a tub of 24 testing strips costs around £64 without VAT. With a prescription, I can buy these for £8.65. I recently asked for another prescription, 3 months after my last and they said they won't be prescribing any for me because I already have enough. I have told the clinic...

    Mechanical valves and MRI scans

I'd suggest you find another GP. They're not electrical, so won't interfere at all.

    Lancet size

I've started to wrap the finger from which I want to draw some blood from with a rubber band, as recommended by Pelliccle. That's SO MUCH easier than simply rubbing your finger and TRYING hard to massage blood out of the finger.

Slight increases in INR, two main culprits?

So I've begun to consume a lot more 100% natural peanut butter and almond milk. I've read that Vitamin E is a natural blood thinner. Two weeks on and this has increased my INR from 2.5 to 2.9. Not a dangerous increase, still within range, but interesting nonetheless. Do you guys think the...

    One year since surgery

I'm 3 days away from a whole year since my re-do surgery on the 7th of April last year. I honestly cannot believe how quick it has come around. It feels like yesterday that I was in hospital. #1 year with my mechanical Carbomedics valve, pulmonary homograft and RV-PA conduit. Mouthful... :-)...

Ross procedure / Aortic Homograft vs on-x valve

Yeah, but Arnie is a T-800/T850 - He is a cybernetic organism. The valves just didn't work with his exoskeleton. Hence they've tried mechanical.

Ross procedure / Aortic Homograft vs on-x valve

The problem with a Ross Procedure is cutting out a perfectly well valve from the pulmonary position to use in the aortic position. This leaves you open to two valve surgeries in the near future. 1. I have had the Ross Procedure done, but when I was 8, and at the time it was a viable choice to...

Back to square one. Surgeon won't operate on me.

The data from that study only compares the results for two years. That's hardly anything to go by.

    More post op surprises

A similar thing occurred with me on the NHS in the UK in my recent surgery. I was told all along that I would receive a St Judes Mechanical valve to replace my Aortic valve, but when I saw my hospital records it said Carbomedics carboseal. I guess it could be a number of factors really. As...

What are the benefits of the surgery and how long will they last?

As others have posted, not dying is a major benefit. There is also one more reason for people to look after themselves via dieting and exercise. I'm not sure if others share my view, but I see this as a blessing as it's forced me to eat properly, exercise and live a generally healthy life. I...

    Puke

Same thing also happened to me. I helped the surgeon to scoop the vomit out.
