Normal ef function befor AVR now severely low ef function after AVR

sorry for the delay. my cardio believes it was cardiomyopathy caused by a viral infection I caught in the first 6 months after my surgery and the only one I got was the noro virus. My sister asked me to babysit her 18 yr old daughter as she got food poisoning the night before so I went and sat...

Normal ef function befor AVR now severely low ef function after AVR

my cardo, my pcp and all my other dr's are at a complete loss as to why this has happened because before surgery, and just after my ef % was at 60 - 65% with my blood pressure on the low side and a resting heart rate in the upper 70's to low 80's, then out of the blue my heart rate sky rocketed...

Normal ef function befor AVR now severely low ef function after AVR

As the title states, I had normal ef function around 60 - 65% ef function before my AVR, I was lucky. Now a year and a few months later, I just had my first yearly follow up echo and it showed severely low ef function at 35% and I am not in systolic heart failure. I have a normally low blood...

    Very Sad

I am having some dental work done in March, long story short I am having 5 teeth extracted to make way for a denture. This story has made me very nervous. I was told by my surgeon and cardio to just remember to have antibiotics before/after the procedure. My anti-coag specialist is aware of...

What is the one thing you couldn't live without during post-surgery recovery?

I too used the phone to get the help I needed at night, the hospital issued wrap to hold myself together before I could wear a bra again ( that lasted several weeks for me), and oh button down shirts were a must for me!!!

Time of day to take Warfarin?

Anyone have any suggestions as to when you should take warfarin? I usually take it around 6 pm. Is this a good time or bad time or does it matter?

    Heart rate too fast

Sorry, my anti-coag person is a PA-C. She was mostly concerned because of the time it takes for my heart rate to get down to between 70 and 80. I feel pretty good, I guess sometimes I just get a bit nervous. Thanks for the reply.

    Heart rate too fast

Just after my AVR I struggled with atrial flutter and had a constant heart rate of 130+ for some time. I felt worse than I did before my surgery. I was scheduled to have an ablation done to fix it, however my heart shocked itself into a normal rhythm and my heart rate was steady between 70 and...

How did you deal with anxiety and depression?

I didn't find this forum until a month or so after my AVR. I was a bit down and depressed and started searching for an outlet for myself and I found this forum. I'm so glad I did as I have been able to read some very inspiring stories to get me through. I'm now 3 months post op and physically...

    Sleeping in a bed

Thanks for all the replies, I have been back in a bed now for a week and it has gotten much easier. There is still some scar pulling but it is easing off and I compensate by holding a pillow against the scar until I stand up.

    Sleeping in a bed

I was taught how to get in and out of bed in the hospital. I don't have a problem getting in and out of bed, it's the pulling sensation that is upsetting. I was just wondering how long it took for other people to get over the pain of the strain of the pulling on the scar. I have been in the...

    Sleeping in a bed

I have spent the majority of my post op time sleeping in a recliner, mostly due to the fact that it hurt so much to get in and out of bed. I was wondering if anyone else did the same thing and also how long it took to adjust to sleeping in a bed. I have recently decided to sleep in a bed, or...

Surgery Date is set, now it's decision time!

Mrs Bray, I am 41 years old and in July I had my OHS and chose a st jude mechanical valve and even though I now take warfarin every day for the rest of my life it was an easy decision as I knew I wouldn't want to go through it again in 5 years or so as that is also what my surgeon told me. I...
