    Time for Aortic Aneurywm Repair?

I'm surprised they chose not to repair the aneurysm at the same time as replacing the valve, especially with it's proximity to the valve. I realize the threshold is 5.5, but given your age I would have thought they would want to to one surgery instead of waiting for the aneurysm to grow, then...

Valve Replacement vs Valve and Aortic Root replacement?

I'll start off by saying - there are many here who know more about this than I do.....but hopefully my experience might be helpful. My surgeon (and later, my cardiologist) told me that my aneurysm was caused by my BAV. My root had grown to 52mm. So both were taken care of. Surgeon recommended...

1 year later, many symptoms returning - anyone else see a decline in recovery?

I didn't know that re: iron o.d. I'd actually be a little surprised if my iron is low, I've always been a red meat person! Although I did have to stop my vitamins.... Never heard that about the bad valve contributing, either....

1 year later, many symptoms returning - anyone else see a decline in recovery?

Thanks, ski girl - I'll be checking with my GP for at least the bloodwork results very soon. I didn't know anemia could cause those same symptoms (SOB, weak/shaky legs, chest tightness). It's quite possible that my iron could be low, as I stopped taking my multivitamins after surgery due to the...

1 year later, many symptoms returning - anyone else see a decline in recovery?

Thanks so much for the responses, much appreciated!! I'm told my cardiologist is on vacation till May. But what I can do is get into see my GP and I'm sure she can see the results. In B.C. here, they've got all patient files online for any doctor to look at. I can at least get results from the...

1 year later, many symptoms returning - anyone else see a decline in recovery?

Hi everyone..... Loving this forum, lots of wonderful information here. I'm looking for some answers. March 21st, 2013. OHS to repair ascending aortic aneurysm at 52mm, and replace bicuspid aortic valve with mechanical. Had been having symptoms for about 6 months previously, including...

now 6 months post op and still thumping away

Mike, The short answer is, yes.... I'm just past a year since my mechanical valve was put in, and I still have to take something to sleep at night, otherwise I just toss around trying to ignore it. Often, it feels like it's thumping in my throat, or up the sides of my neck. I also get a hard...

Valve Choice for 33 Year Old: Mechanical VS HomoGraft vs Ross?

Hi tommyboy... Just thought I'd add another voice to the mix, hopefully helpfull... I had my surgery a year ago, mechanical valve. After the first couple months of adjusting the meds and finding the sweet spot with the dose, it's been so easy I almost forget to test. I chose the mechanical...

I am on my 3rd day returning to work after mech valve replacement - need some answers

I've just passed one year with my mechanical valve. I still get quite a firm, annoying pounding at night, usually have to take something to go to sleep, otherwise I toss most of the night trying to ignore it. My ticking is loud sometimes, quiet others, the ticking has never really bothered me...

Need another aortic valve replacement after just four yrs

Wow, very sorry to hear that... I've just past my first year with a mechanical valve. So far the only downsides are needing warfarin (mechanicals are more prone to developing clots on the surfaces), and I can't sneak up on my children anymore as they can often hear me ticking! After...

Seeking feedback-recently diagnosed w BAV and 51mm AoRoot

Cliff.. I'll also add on a little more to this.... the way my cardiac surgeon put it was this: Sooner or later, BAV is quite likely to cause the aneuryism. And he stated several cases he had in which a valve-sparing aneuryism repair was performed, only to have another re-occur a few years...

    BAV hereditary?

That's what I was told when diagnosed - and later found I have a younger cousin also with BAV. I was also strongly encouraged to have my children get looked at when they're older. I had a grandfather die of heart-related issues, after having two aneuryisms repaired (not at the same time, a few...

Seeking feedback-recently diagnosed w BAV and 51mm AoRoot

Just realized I didn't include this - my surgery not only corrected the aneuryism, but replaced the aortic valve, I now have a mechanical.

Seeking feedback-recently diagnosed w BAV and 51mm AoRoot

Hi Cliff.. I, too, am new here, this is my first post. My case is very similar to yours, actually. I am your age and was previously physically fit and active. Began having same symptoms as you in summer/fall 2012. Diagnosed with BAV in Jan 2013, with aneuryism from aortic root to arch of 5.2...
