Highest INR you have heard of or experienced?

A routine blood check (2009) revealed mine had skyrocketed to Protime = 100 INR = 11.2 😬 My primary care physician immediately called me and told me to go directly to the emergency room. I was quickly registered and got my room, and when the nurse came in I had told her the values that I had...

To metoprolol or not to metoprolol

38 is is quite low, although I have seen mine in the low '50s on occasion. My systolic and diastolic blood pressure was 86 / 48 in one of my last 10 readings. I try not to get it that low because it can be dangerous on other parts of the body.

First Surgery Coming Up, And Afraid

It's been over 35 years since I had a St Jude aortic mechanical valve installed in me. Can't say there hasn't been anxiety because there has for me, and that pretty much goes along with some individual personalities. Despite the anxieties I have had, I challenge them in a sense that I don't let...

    Blood Pressure too low?

In another thread I posted my bp, it was taken after a meal, at 105/51, p 60. I ha an aortic valve prosthesis 35 years ago. It is borderline low, but I'm not alarmed.

    Not doing surgery

Interesting thread, and a bit sobering. To each their own. I wonder if you would make the same decision if you didn't suffer depression ? Probably not. I didn't read through the entire thread, but there is hope in God if you put your faith in him!

To metoprolol or not to metoprolol

For me, beta blockers did more harm than good. They made me very irritable, which in turn made my blood pressure go up. Lisinopril, at .5mg does all I need. I took my bp yesterday 105/51 pulse at 60. It's a bit low, but I think it is residual of sleeping medicine I take. I have to watch that...

    Tooth Extraction

I think surgery would be more of a cocnern. I have had knee, ankle, and shoulder surgery since getting my aortic valve prosthesis (st jude).

Open Heart surgeries and Neurological problems

I have never been the same after surgery, losing my ability to sleep, and also having ocular migraines frequent enough. These kaleidoscope like onsets moves across my vision and dissipate in about 20-30 minutes. I often wonder what effects all the meds I take have on me.

    Sternum wire question

Never have had a problem with mine, now 35.5 years since surgery. It looks a bit eerie when I see it in an x-ray, but it is what it is.

    Dacron Graft Life expectancy

At age 32 I had an aortic valve prosthesis that included 6 in of Dacron mesh aorta that replaced the aneurysm. I am now 67 years old, and still have concerns how long mine is going to last, lol. It's natural to have that concern, but to let it overwhelm us can be debilitating. All I can say...

Student - looking for information on mechanical heart valves

The length of time dick0236 has had his mechanical valve is impressive, and great news for all who have mechanical valves. I am somewhat similar to dick0236's case in that I have had a St Jude aortic valve for 35 plus years now. Mine was installed in December of 1987, and seems to be going well...

AVR then I got covid 1 year later and I now have diabetes!

Two barriers that people used during covid-19 were masks and gloves. Rather than a strictly scientific study and survey, common sense would tell me that masking would help to some degree. Simply, when a person breathes or especially sneezes or coughs, the mask will prevent some of their body...

AVR then I got covid 1 year later and I now have diabetes!

I haven't looked over the subject extensively, but I thought there were numerous studies indicating the same results, that masking has little to no value in stopping the spread of covid or dying from covid. Just the same, I have my own feelings on masking, I think it contains a lot of personal...

AVR then I got covid 1 year later and I now have diabetes!

Dear op, The effectiveness of masking has been proven to be not as strong as has been promoted. Also, i have been fully vaxed and had c19 a month ago. So sorry to hear about your other difficulties, that's a shame. I could say further things about C19, being skeptical inre of world governments...

BEST NEWS OF MY LIFE :))))))

The way I understand this is that you still have a problem, but it hasn't got any worse. Maybe you have been very careful in your activities to get to this point, but as has been mentioned, I would definitely get a second opinion. I am wondering what type of activity you may get involved in that...

Which is better in your opinion?

Plastic is a byproduct of petroleum, and paper of course is a byproduct of trees. Do we cut down more trees to make paper bags or do we use plastic that comes from petroleum and eventually pollute the environment with the waste. Probably the best way to do things is to continue to reuse over and...

    Aspirin in conjunction with Warfarin

I think this post has a lot of good information in it. In an earlier post I mentioned that mine was 12.8, and yes I was in the hospital, but that is three times as high as what some consider dangerous at 4.0. My range is 2.5 to 3.5, and as was mentioned, I shoot for around 3ish.

    Aspirin in conjunction with Warfarin

Yes, that is a bit conservative in a way that the range is quite broad. I am probably a bit different than most people in that I had an aortic valve prosthesis, where they had to replace about 6 in of aorta coming off the top of the heart. They made the prosthesis up before surgery, sewing a St...

    Aspirin in conjunction with Warfarin

They gave me a range of 2.5 to 3.5 for the St Jude aortic valve I have. 4.0 is a bit high, but mine jumped to three times that level about 10 years ago. It was 12.8 and I was in the hospital because of it. I was bleeding from the soft tissue in my body, particularly lungs, I also had blotchy...
