    I am fuhreeeking out!

 I'm so very upset right now....just got a call from the clinic and my surgery has been bumped until the 17th. As if this wait wasn't hard enough, I now have to wait 1 more week. They are backlogged and can't help it and it does make me sad that there are others out their sicker than me...

    I am fuhreeeking out!

Surgery is this Thursday (may 10) and I've gone into panic mode. I am all of a sudden scared of the recovery, scared to wake up with the tube down my throat, scared of the drainage tubes, the IV in my neck and scared to cough. I'm scared of how much pain I'll be in. Where is this coming from...

    Are these approved in Canada?

I spoke with the surgeon and he stresses that they are not approved in north america! Interesting. He did say that a lot of people use them, but they are not recommended by health canada for sure. I still have to check with my insurance to see if they'd cover something, but if it's not...

    I think I made a decision...

I think I'm going to go with the mechanical valve should my aortic valve need replacing. Man, this has been such a hard decision.... I saw my surgeon again on Thursday and while he said he'd choose the tissue for himself (being a surgeon and using sharp instruments and all that) he also said...

    The shock value PO.

YES! This hits me about once a day (I'm still pre-op, to go in on May 10). I keep thinking "holy F___ I'm going to have OHS!". Sometimes I can brush it away thinking "Hey no biggie, lots of folks do it" and other times the thought leaves me in a huge weeping pile of mess on my bedroom floor...

    Are these approved in Canada?

Are home monitoring kits available in Canada? When I spoke with the Aortic Clinic here in Ottawa, I was told that they are not approved so I can't get one and it's to the lab I go....However, the more I read here, the more I see that some Canadians do have one. Anyone know the deal?

I'm sure this has been done before...

but do you mind humouring a newbie? I still have to decide on which valve (mechanical or bio) to replace my aortic valve. I keep flip-flopping back and forth and there just doesn't seem to be a clear path for me. I keep thinking that if I knew that 10 or 20 years from now that I was going to...

Q for 16 days post-op, is this realistic?

What is this heart pillow I keep hearing about? Is it given at the hospital? Or how can I get my hands on one? Someone I can't see OHIP handing them out freely! :)
