Running Update - 7 months post AVR

http://jimpattillo.com/2013/01/22/overdue-running-update/ Not as much detail as I could include but I feel like I never had the surgery.

    Is it really that time?

Once I was in the window where I could go ahead and get it done, I did. Best decision I made, especially considering the operative approach I chose. The few months of waiting was much worse than the recover. I couldn't imagine delaying it for years. The anxiety of waiting would not be worth it...

    10 miler

Felt fine. Went super slow and had a lot left in the tank.

    10 miler

Ran 10 miles on Saturday about 10 week post AVR. Cardiologist cleared me to do everything but high weight low rep lifting. I think a spring marathon is within reach! I just have to get my hip flexors to cooperate.

    Sex after surgery

I would suggest waiting until you get out of ICU.

    Roche Diagnostics Out of Network

The US healthcare system is working for me. I'm getting the home kit and won't have to pay a deductible, all because of competition in an open market. It's the threat of my taking my business elsewhere that has kept the price down for me.

    Roche Diagnostics Out of Network

I just had a great break through with this. I explained the problem to my cario's nurse. She called the rep from a different company and the rep went to bat for me (with the incentive of picking up more business from my cardio). Apparently home INR companies are often willing to waive the...

    Roche Diagnostics Out of Network

So what should I expect to pay on EBay? I'm seeing new kits well over $1,000.

    Roche Diagnostics Out of Network

My cardiologist ordered a home test kit from Roche Diagnostics. However, I received a call from them saying they are out of my BCBS of Alabama network and that I would have to cover 50%. Has anyone had this problem before? Also, is anyone using the kit but not reporting results to the testing...

    My AVR Experience

Great post. I had the same problem with back pain from one of the chest tubes. I was at my son's baseball practice 8 days post op and got some of the same looks. We did go to church on post op day 5 although I could have. My wife just wasn't ready to deal with the millions of questions.

    Question for runners with afib

I'm dealing with some flutter myself. I'm a runner and was actually cleared to do some running 2 weeks after surgery. (I had a right anterior mini thoracotomy and recovery has been a breeze). The flutter started a few days ago after the cardiologist let me cut my beta blocker dose in 1/2. I...

    Running: Post Op Day 26

Yep, we did that. Cardy said the same thing and suggested cutting dose in 1/2. I was already on the lowest pill size of 3.125. However, I just don't think I was ready for it and in retrospect the almost syncope wasn't that bad in comparison. I'll try again in a month or two.

    Running: Post Op Day 26

Update... I walked late last night with a tiny bit of running (about 2 min. total). Then after showering and some couch time, I had a pretty rapid heartbeat. It got up above 100 at rest which bothered me a little. On Sunday, I had cut my beta blocker dose in 1/2 with the doctor's...
