    Ladies....Only!

I wear at 36DD, so I understand your concern. Keep in mind that for the first month or so you won't be up for doing anything. Since I was just laying around the house, I didn't wear a bra. I have had OHS 3 times, so I have learned some tips each time. I bought some non-underwire bra's that...

Cotton sternum ties....has anyone else had them?

Just an update - I am meeting with the surgeon next week to get the ties removed. They are starting to push through my chest, like the wire ones did, and causing a great deal of pain.

6 weeks post op and I have mild to moderate leakage????

So sorry to hear that. I had my mitral valve repaired 9/2010 and was fine until Christmas eve 2011 when the repair failed. I am now 10 weeks post op from the valve replacement. Its scary and depressing to have to go through surgery again. But look on the bright side, at least it is something...

Mechanical valve + Coumadin + Birth Control

Talk to your cardiologist and GYN about different birth control pill options. I take a very low dose birth control and my cardiologist and GYN both agreed I could stay on it with the Coudadin. It's called Lessina.

    Afraid to exercise again

I have been spinning for 6 years now. Sept 2010 I suddenly couldn't breathe, and started coughing uncontrollably. After catching my breath I went to the cardiologist and he sent me for a TEE where they determined that my Mitral valve had completely broken and was just flapping around. Two days...

Cotton sternum ties....has anyone else had them?

I had a very bad reaction to the sternum wires after my second heart surgery, so they used cotton sternum ties this time. I loved them post op because they seemed to hold the sternum together better than the wires. (I didn't feel the bones move this time) However, 9 weeks post op, I can feel the...

    Sternum Wires

Most people have no problems with the wire. If your husband is allergic to nickel, then he could have issues. But that is rare. I did have a reaction to them and had them removed. For my third surgery, 9 weeks ago, they used cotton ties. I think they are new, but they were GREAT! You may want to...

    Sternum Wires

I had all my wires removed after my second OHS. My body started rejecting the wires and pushing them out of my body. It's an out patient procedure but they need to knock you out for it. They re-open your scar and remove the wires. They said I could go back to work the next day, but I was out for...

    3rd open heart surgery today

I hope all went well. Today I am 9 weeks post op from my third open heart surgery. So far the third was the easiest. I think it is because I knew what to expect. I am even going back to work on Monday......Hang in there, it gets better!
