Too much fluid Too much fluid Hey all, If you are undergoing surgery "on-pump" then the system needs to be primed. If the surgeon didn't do this, then you would lose a massive amount of blood into the system before it was able to pump appropriatley. There has been quite a bit of research into...

porcine vs bovine--what tissue valve is a better choice?

Structural valve dysfunction. Thought it was covered higher, but thay asked about durability, and that is how physicians measure durability. SVD means failure that is the fault of the valve, like calcification or tear (not endocarditis, thrombus, pannus or other causes.)

porcine vs bovine--what tissue valve is a better choice?

mitral durablility mitral durablility Can't really go wrong with either. True, new generation valves like Magna and Mosaic have limited long term data but were built on proven platforms. lower tissue-valve life with higher activity level

Ppm Ppm Tobagotwo- Yes, I mean patient prosthesis mismatch, to clarify. There was a recent paper from the Cleveland Clinic (Milhajevic 2008) where they looked (estimate about 4000, do not have the paper in front of me.) at a large group of their AVR patients. It was a paper about factors...

lower tissue-valve life with higher activity level

Marketing propaganda to patients is sad... I work for a med device company and can tell you that what they did on the tour to you should be punishable by fines and or imprisonment though it currently is not. If you want a peer reviewed paper or two instead of some slick marketers spin, you can...

    Help with echo report

good question good question Oaktree, good thought. As I looked at her update I thought the same thing. Many people have low bp following heart surgery, and it climbs as they heal. Your bp is currently poorly controlled, and this is elevating your gradient. I knew you had PPM based on the EW...

lower tissue-valve life with higher activity level

Interesting discussion Interesting discussion Hey all. The eternal debate. My recomendation is to stay active and fit, as this will help if you need a re-op for any reason. A little primer on physiology. Cardiac output is easy to calculate, and very relevant. Heart rate X Stroke Volume =...
