15 months post MVR and experiencing low BP after exercise.

Had Mitral Valve repair back in May of 2012. From what I was told, the surgery was a success and although still a small leak, no where near where it was. However, I have never been able to feel as strong as prior to surgery, not that I expected that. However, lately I have had very low blood...

Carvedilol and Heart Rate / Biking, jogging

Thanks! All good info. I rode my second 36miler on the bike this weekend and although still slow recovered much better today. Partly hydrating better than last weekend. Makes a huge difference.

Carvedilol and Heart Rate / Biking, jogging

I'm on them because my resting heart rate was so high after surgery. It was the only drug that treated both the high bp as well as dropped the rate. Tprice54, what are the best drugs for athletes for treating hypertension? I've been on metatoprol and lisinopril prior to surgery.

    Race Report

I agree...great pace. I can only walk a 13min pace right now with some jogging thrown in... However, I can keep it up for 5 miles. I had my MVRepair May 14th.

Carvedilol and Heart Rate / Biking, jogging

I'm (52 years old) celebrating my 12th week post surgery for Mitral Valve Repair which was successful...performed at Duke May 14th. My resting heart rate had been high (90-100) beats per minute post surgery, (presurgery 45-50bpm) so they put me on Carvedilol (9.37mg) twice a day to reduce it...

Post Op Less Invasive Mitral Valve Repair

I'm still glad of the less invasive approach. I think the groin pain would have been the same regardless. The scars are minimal now almost 5 weeks and I have no problem walking 4 miles a day...starting to jog some today. The question I'll never get to know is would the surgery have been...

    Rehab - Do or Not?

I'm meeting with my cardiologist next week...5-1/2 weeks post surgery. I'm probably going to do rehab for all the reasons above...monitoring, answering questions...etc. I've been walking a brisk 4 miles every day (4mph pace) and even jogged a little today...albeit slowly. I may not go for...

Post Op Less Invasive Mitral Valve Repair

This is the 4th week anniversary of my right side thoracotomy and for the most part feeling great. I walked out of the ICU into a regular room after about 12 hours after surgery was finished.... It ended up being a 7-1/2 hour procedure to repair my mitral valve. It was successful. Yes it is...

Post Surgery Question 2- Higher Resting Heatbeat?

Sounds like my resting heart beat is going to be high for a while. I'm off all but the rythmol and aspirin as of today and am not having the dizzy spells as a result. Walked 5 miles briskly today split over morning and afternoon session. Thanks for the responses. 51 MVR 5/14/12 Right...

    Exercise = lower heart rate?

this is a good thread. I'm only 2 weeks out from mitral valve repair surgery successfully done without a replacement valve. My resting heart rate is staying around 95-100, although I haven't checked it while walking. Doing about 4-5 miles every day. No running yet. I'm not on metatoprol...

Post Surgery Question 2- Higher Resting Heatbeat?

I'm 16 days out of surgery for mitral valve repair performed with right side terachotomy. I've been off pain killers for a week and am only on Rythmol and Aspirin right now. Prior to surgery my resting heart rate was usually less than 60, but now it's not really coming down off 95-100. Is...

    Post Surgery Issues

I just got out of the hospital last Saturday after undergoing Mitral Valve Repair the preceding Monday. It was a fairly long operation...7 plus hours, but was successful with the repair and the less invasive right side thoracotomy. Since then my pain has been really confined to my right groin...

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

I was surprised they let me walk out of the ICU about 12 hours after surgery. I was surprised how much I could walk over the first few days. I was surprised to still feel a lot of pain at my lower incisions even now after 10 days. I was surprised to get dizzy when standing up after sitting or...

Right Mini-Thoracotomy Mitral Valve Repair Next Monday!

Home again..Home again! Home again..Home again! After surgery Monday afternoon which lasted a total of 7plus hours, I am now home. I'm sore but still able to get around. I've almost blacked out a couple of times while standing up, but every time I'm able to do my walk. I finished at the...
