    Two year valveversary

Two years ago today, just about this time, Dr. Kshettry was making his first incision. I really should check in more often; however, some things I read can cause more discouragement "on this side" than the great benefit I got from this group in preparation. That said, I will really try to...

    Post TAVR journey of CoryP

Lowered cost might be a factor that is a positive both for insurance companies and patients. But the short surgery, hospital stay, and apparent immediate health and vitality benefits are an obvious attraction to patients. The only big issue is the following ".if not then the data says the...

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) for us cardiac kids

@ Almost Hectic the idea is that there are some things - such as pre-op nutrition (the expectation to not eat or drink after midnight before surgery) that are founded on some specious dogmas and that things like carb loading prior to surgery help the process along. It seems that the...

    Shopping for heart valves

Good. Not just me. Yes, I would like a copy of that file. I am doing a lot of reading on this topic these days. Picked a surgeon on Thursday (Vibhu Kshettry, Minneapolis Heart Institute/Abbott Northwestern), and the plan is to call at the end of May to schedule OHS in July.

Are these valve in valve procedures just for bioprosthetic valves, or are they supposed to fit into mechanical valves as well?

Getting some life insurance -- Have you had trouble?

A few years ago, I had some mildly high blood pressure and somewhat high blood sugar. I had been thinking about getting some disability insurance and maybe some more life insurance, but was told that having these diagnoses and being on medication could be an underwriting issues. So I made some...
