    Valve Cost?

The $250,000 was the amount billed. The actual amount insurance paid was less, but I’m not sure how much less. My valve was an On-X.

    Valve Cost?

In 2017 my surgery was roughly $250,000 at Cleveland Clinic. I paid $5,000 because I went out of network. Very much worth it I believe. The valve itself was about $16,000.

Any recent On-X valvers in here?

I got my valve in 2017 and called last year and got my ring. They were happy to send me one.

Mechnical AV and Corona Virus Risks- March 2020

This is also something I would like to know. I did contact my Cardioigist via one of his nurses. The response I received was pretty much the standard procedure being advised to the general public with a final caveat of “don’t leave your home unless you have to”. Of course I have been reading as...

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

I had my AV replacement 2 years ago at 49. I chose a mechanical valve on the basis that I did not want to endure another surgery or possibly two. That along with the accompanied degradation in health leading up to a tissue replacement and subsequent rehab. That being said I can hear my ticking...

    9 weeks out

Judy, I found that 5 weeks was my turning point. Prior to that I was in a rough place mentally and feeling helpless. It all changed in the 6th and 7th week and I was ready to get back to work and all my normal activities. I was amazed at the change in energy and outlook. Now at 9 weeks I find...

On my way with home testing

Well I did my weekly INR call in to my Dr today. INR was at 2.4, steady for the last week over 4 tests. On the return call I had to confess that I tweeted my dose. The nurse was not happy and said she would talk to the Dr and call back. A few hours later she called back and scolded me for upping...

    9 weeks out

This past Monday marked 9 weeks since surgery. I returned to work at 8 weeks although in a light duty status as cardiologist wants to wait 12 weeks for my sternum to heal. I have been feeling pretty good, not 100% but feel that I am progressing at a very good pace. I have been doing long walks...

On my way with home testing

So about three weeks ago I obtained my own monitor to start self testing to get a better handle on my levels. The first month or so out of the hospital my INR was all over the place from 3.7 to 2.1 with testing every week. Prior to getting my meter I was reluctant to eat any salads or drink any...

Made it through the other side

I learned today that the CT came back neg for any clots in my lungs, which is good. Went in for my electrical study today to check on my LBBB. Not good news. I now have more hardware installed in the form of a pacemaker. I am trying to stay positive but it's hard.

Made it through the other side

My recovery has been going fairly well and I have advanced my endurance to 5 laps around hospital floor. A hiccup with scheduling meds caused some serious pain yesterday morning. Once I got them back on schedule I had the best night of sleep last night. Then came this morning! It seemed as...

Made it through the other side

Made it through surgery without incident yesterday. Proud owner of an internal Timex. Made it out of ICU this morning. Uneventful day until I hit dinner time. Had some serious heart beat issues, LBB I think. On pacer now. Kind of scary. Doc explained that this is sometimes an expected result of...

    Surgery scehduled for 2/20/17

Thank you Judy. I am starting to get a nervous but am trying to stay as relaxed as possible. I am out of town for a family wedding right now which should help with the anxiety. Unfortunately not able to have any drinks to calm my nerves.
