    My one-year anniversary

Thank you for the weight-lifting suggestion, I'll give it a try!

    My one-year anniversary

Thank you for the responses. By the way, the surgery date should be 2011, not 2012.

    My one-year anniversary

On the one-year anniversary of my OHS, I decided to review everything that I went through during the year, from surgery to the present, with the hope that it will help someone that is preparing to go through the same thing. In particular, I would like to let family members know what to expect...

    OHS and the common cold

I'm still in the hospital, but I should go home tomorrow or the next day when they get my INR up.

    OHS and the common cold

Thanks everyone. I took Lyn's advice and laid off the Zicam after only taking a couple, but it never really developed into much of anything anyway. I was mostly asymptomatic when I went in Monday morning and it never really came up. I'm four days post-op now and doing pretty well.

    OHS and the common cold

Thanks for everyone's responses. It looks like I've caught the cold, but only mildly. I'm going to take Zicam and get a lot of rest this weekend and hope it's gone by Monday. If everything works out, I'll report back from the other side. If they reschedule, I'll let everyone know. Thanks...

    OHS and the common cold

My surgery is scheduled for this coming Monday to replace my BAV and ascending aorta. My wife just came down with a cold and I'm afraid that I will catch it too. Does anyone know what kind of impact that might have on my surgery? I'm really ready to get this done and we've done a lot of...

    Finally met with surgeon

Thank you, everyone. It's great to have this forum to get this kind of information from people who have actually been there! It's really helping me prepare for this emotionally as well as educationally.

    Finally met with surgeon

Lynlw - Thanks for the link. That's great information! My surgery will be performed at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC. The surgeon, Scott Ross, was chief resident at Stanford and has done alot of aneurysm work. ElectLive - Thanks for the response. That gives me a good idea of what to...

    Finally met with surgeon

I finally got to meet with my surgeon yesterday and got a surgery date of August 15th. He will be replacing my aortic valve with a St. Jude mechanical and the ascending aorta from the root up to just before the arch. I'm really looking forward to getting this out of the way so I can feel...

    Aortic Aneurysm stuff

I finally met with my surgeon and he said pretty much the same thing: the guidelines for aortic aneurysms in BAV patients is lower than for others and is getting lower all the time. Mine is only around 4.7 or 4.8 and I've already got a surgery date for next month. I thing the attitude is that...

    Aortic Aneurysm stuff

This is some great information! Last year my aortic root had expanded to 4.8 cm and my cardio wanted to just check it in a year. This year it was "over" 5.0 cm (I don't know how much over) measured by echo and he decided it was time to go ahead with surgery. Interestingly, a follow-up CT scan...
