I have 4 days to decide - help!

I in no way want to have this surgery twice. Every time you cut into the heart you risk chronic rhythm problems, which is very debilitating and require coumadin anyway. Day to day the coumadin does not affect my life, and I notice no major difference in brusing and bleeding.

what to take to the hospital - a checklist

Shave yourself, trust me on this one. Make sure you have someone there after with a writing pad and thick pen to write with. Even if they say you won't wake for a while, have someone there who will not ignore your attempt to communicate.

Shooting high powered riffles after valve replacement

I am over 3 year post op, and have my eye on a 7.62/.308 riffle. I shoot an AR15 all the time, but it doesn't kick much. If we have any sportsman here, do you have any idea of how firing a high powered riffle would affect a mechanical valve?

    Irregular Heartbeat

Any time you cut the heart open the risk of afib or some kind of irregular rhythm is a possibility. The more you cut it open the higher this risk goes. This is why some people who go tissue valve replacement still end up on Coumadin. I had a bad afib issue for about four months, but got it...

One month post op and my heart is still pounding like a hammer--this is normal?

I slept in my lazy boy after the first wake- up. The thing that got me up a lot was the night sweats. Something about the angle of the recliner help greatly.

    Mechanical vs tissue

Blood testing is no big deal if you get a home test meter; I do mine every week or two. The diet thing is a myth; eat what you want and your levels will fall in line as you determine you Coumadin dosage. It is my opinion to eat healthy levels of foods with Vit K, as it helps to regulate...

    Which Meter?

My meter is a coagucheck and it is always .4 to .6 above the lab. As a mater of practice I take a 2.5mg booster when I get below 2.8 when trying to keep a range of 2.5 to 3.5. I think it is important to know your meter by doing a lab draw when the opportunity comes up and check it the same day...

    INR Question

Hot weather, interesting question. I do feel for me activity level and metabolic rate affects my results. When I work out more it seems I need a little 2.mg booster from time to time. It could be that heat may also affect the metabolism depending on how much time you are out in it and what...
