No history of any issues until suddenly at 42 I went from running, hiking and being really active to not being able to climb stairs. Doctors say that I had probably had stenotic condition and then the valve leaflets broke off. Their best guess is that when I had scarlet fever (3 years) or strep (multiple severe cases 9 to 11 years old) I must have contracted rheumatic fever.
