    Affordable Heating?

Hello Ross, Our electric company offers off peak dual fuel. They will put an electric heating element on your furnace and then charge a reduced rate for the electricity that is used to warm it. My husband had looked into it. It is supposed to be cheaper than LP or fuel oil. The fuel oil would...

    NEW pics!

Your cars are beautiful. I have driven Monte Carlo's for the last 26 years :D My first was a 1973, then 1985, a 1995 and now I have a 2004. My favorite one was the 1985. I had a T-top in that one. I loved that car. The current one has a sunroof, so that is almost as good as the T-top. I can't...

ASD and regurgitating mitral and tricuspid valves

HI Katlee, I was found to have a "heart murmur" at age 16. I am now 46. The doctors diagnosed it as mitral valve prolapse. I was followed by a cardiologist who did echos every year. At age 24, there was a very dramatic change in my heart size. They did a heart cath to see what was going on...

    pacemaker question

Thank you so much for the replies. It really helps to know that a pacemaker does help with quality of life. I guess it was such a surprise and seems so "final". But, we have all been through a lot with our valves and this is probably the next step. I do feel better than I did after I had the...

    pacemaker question

Hello. I saw my cardiologist yesterday for my annual checkup. I have experienced chronic atrial fibrillation for seven years. I had hopes that they could do something about it when I had my mitral valve replaced five years ago, but they weren't able to do anything. I have been having some...

New Replacement Strips - Anyone Received?

I called QAS last week to inquire about the strips, as I had received a letter that they would be available. The person I talked to was very nice and she put in an order for my replacement strips right then. I called on a Tuesday and received the strips on Thursday. I was very surprised. Hope...

New member - clicking and pain

Hi Tough Cookie, Four years ago I had a carbomedics mitral valve placed. When I woke from surgery I could hear the ticking and it has never stopped. (thank goodness I guess). Like you, I have had a terrible time with the sound. I could not stand ticking clocks before the surgery, so I was in...

    Mitral Valve Tear???

good morning, In 1985, I had a mitral valve repair for a cleft mitral valve. I did pretty well for quite a while after that. But then in March of 2002, I experienced increased shortness of breath. Our cows were having their babies, so I attributed alot of my problems to being tired and having...

    ''clefts on mv anterior leaflets''

Hi. I was born with a "cleft" mitral valve. Along with an ASD and VSD. For my first surgery, they were able to sew the cleft valve together. It lasted for 17 years then it tore due to scar tissue build up and I needed to have a mechanical valve placed. I don't know if this helps you at all. Have...

    Most interesting place you've visited

As for myself, the place that I retreat to is Theodore Roosevelt National Park in western North Dakota. Seeing the badlands and the wildlife (especially the horses and the buffalo) is very peaceful for me. Even though my carbomedics valve keeping clacking, it is the one place that I am at total...

    heart meds poll

I have chronic atrial fib. I take Toprol XL 100mg twice a day along with Digoxin 0.125mg twice a day. I think for myself, the Digoxin makes me feel the best, especially since we went to twice a day. It my heart rate drops below 55, then I am supposed to hold the dig, but still take the toprol.

    prometrium and coumadin

Al, Thank you for your quick reply. I was just leery about taking something that could cause a clot to form on the valve. I don't want to ruin the valve if I can help it. I appreciate your information. Thank you. Diane

    prometrium and coumadin

Hi there. I just have a quick question. I went to see an OB/GYN doctor last week. He gave me a prescription for prometrium. While telling me about the drug, he said that the literature says that it can cause blood clots. But I was to ignore that, as that was more for estrogen. So, I got home and...

    been having some post-op problems

Hi Nicole, I am sorry to hear that you are not feeling better. It is hard to go through this surgery and not get the results we were expecting. One thing that came to my mind is did your doctor check you for a blood clot in your lung? Have you had any pain or redness in the calves of your...
