    mechanical-heart-valve-noise-may-cause-sleepless-nights

Potential valve noise was something that concerned me prior to my surgery 33 months ago but I can honestly say for me it’s been a non-issue. Sometimes if I’m lying on my left side in bed, I can hear it. It doesn’t particularly bother me but if it does, I simple shift my position or turn over.

For Those Who Are Afraid Pre-Surgery

Thank you so much for sharing. I choked up a little watching your video and remembering my own journey (and my loving wife). There’s a grand opportunity on the other side of this. It’s up to each one of to make the most of it.

    Q12/22/22

Congratulations and welcome to the club! As Azatadine said, the first few days are the worse. After that, each day brings you one step closer to full recovery. It seems like forever when you‘re going through it but looking back, I’m amazed how quickly I returned to my normal activities.

    Apple Watch not Accurate

Interesting. I have a Series 6 and I've found it to be spot on. I have an indoor rower and at first I was using a Polar HR strap. After 2 months I decided to ditch the Polar because my Apple Watch was mirroring the data I was getting from my heart rate strap. FWIW, I've noticed that if my watch...

Returning to exercise after valve surgery

Chuck, thank you so much for taking the time to share this information regarding LPA levels, causes, and potential treatments. I'm working hard to try to stay positive. I will be speaking with my doctor soon to map out a plan forward and the information you posted is a great help to me. I...

Returning to exercise after valve surgery

Update: The results of my Lp(a) test came in a day after my consult with my cardiologist. VERY discouraging. I'm at 124 with a reference range of 29 mg/dL. Following my cardio appt. I was placed on atorvastatin and lisinopril for cholesterol and blood pressure. This was before my LP(a) results...

Returning to exercise after valve surgery

Thanks for the great info. Even if my insurance won’t cover it, I’d happily pay if it will give me some actionable information.

Returning to exercise after valve surgery

I have not heard of the Lp(a). I've had the standard lipid panel but not this one. This is good timing because it just so happens that I have my one year follow up with my cardiologist tomorrow so I will asking her about this. Thanks for the information Chuck.

Returning to exercise after valve surgery

That's what I had also. Very heavily calcified with no awareness of it for 56 years. Does anyone know what causes calcification of a tricuspid valve or is it just one of those things one is born with a predisposition for

Weight lifting with valve and aneurysm replacement

Of course I can’t answer your specific question regarding how heavy you can lift as you’ll want to consult your physician. I can, however, share my experience. I had my aortic valve replaced in March 2021. After my initial recovery, I had similar questions and concerns about weight training...

    Celebrating my one-year anniversary.

Fantastic. We had our surgeries only two days apart. Glad to hear that you are recovered and feeling great. Here's to a less eventful 2022.

    Eliquis instead of Coumadin

One thing that I don't like about the prospect of taking Eliquis is the twice per day dosing. If I were already taking meds twice per day this wouldn't be a problem but now I take all my med once per day and am done.

    In one year.

In one year… My surgery was exactly one year ago today (3/3/21). Since then I’ve…contracted COVID, attended my daughter’s graduation, rowed over 1 million meters on my rowing machine, trained with weights 3 times a week, started to learn Spanish, experienced with my mother’s Alzheimers...
