AVR replacement at 41yo.. Which way to go ?

Dave, I am 45 years old and was very active (walking and running 5 miles a day) prior to my AVR, which was in Sept 2010. I decided to go with a mechanical valve instead of a tissue valve because of the shorter life expectancy with the tissue (avg 8-12 yrs). The only drawback of a mechanical...

Good luck Rob, I sure everything will go fine. I am 44 years old and had my AVR (mechanical) 2 1/2 months ago. Prior to surgery I had no symptoms and was walking 5-6 miles a day at 5 mph on the treadmill. Yesterday I was able to walk 7 miles at a rate of 5 mph. Just be sure not to push your...

    Questions

Went with mechanical vale St Judes for my husband age 44 due to his age. Tissue don't last as long so have to have repeat surgery. Coumadin seems like a small issue compared to surgery again. Some people end up on coumadin with tissue valve too, so there are no guarantees you won't need it...

    Not lungs...sternum crackle?

It does this until the bone heals over the sternum where it is broken. Most take 6 weeks for bone to heal but can be longer if you are diabetic or use your arms too much too soon. It's bone rubbing on bone. My husband has it. He had OHS on 9-14-10.. I here lots of people describe this...

Praying that the doctors decide soon and you will be back on your feet. Been thinking of you and your family since my husband Darren had his surgery the day before you. He is doing well except a small infection in his arm from an IV.

How do we handle this situation?

My husband just had surgery 4 days ago and we opted not to let out 14 and 16 year old boys go see him. Trust me I am a nurse and resp therapist. I see this everyday. I don't think you should take them in to see him. Once he's off the vent is a different story.

Cardiac Rehab...is it really that helpful?

I am a cardiac rehab nurse. I obviously support cardiac rehab and this is why. Many times after people go home they need their meds adjusted so we are able to watch heart rates and blood pressure with exercise and get their meds changed if needed. We also can watch heart rhythms and note any...
