    Alsosalt

There is no sodium chloride in the product. You missed my point, guess I should have explained further. It's the amount of potassium that the product has which can be dangerous for heart patients. Last year one day I got a call from our PCP's nurse saying the doctor wanted him to come right...

    Alsosalt

From Cleveland Clinic concerning salt substitutes: Salt substitutes are not a healthful option for everyone. Many salt substitutes contain potassium chloride in place of sodium chloride. Potassium consumed in excess may be harmful for some people. For example, many persons with kidney problems...

How is tissue valve monitored ?

Pat, where did you get this idea? I will be 80 in a couple of weeks and have been on warfarin (coumadin) for 8 years since I developed afib when I had a cancerous kidney taken out and have never had a problem with it. :)

    Today really sucked

When we started seeing a nephrologist for my husband his function was at 27%, six months later it was up to nearly 50%. two weeks ago back down to 28%. His doctor explained that it will yo-yo when you are dealing with congestive heart failure. I hope yours starts the upward trend soon!

Where can i find more information on my husbands surgeon?

Here's a link to Tesas' medical board; perhaps you can search for the doctor to whom you were recommended on here: http://www.tmb.state.tx.us/

My husband will be having valve replacement surgery in 4-6 weeks....HELP!!!

Welcome to this forum!! I had open heart surgery 5 years ago at age 75 and found the experience nothing as bad as your imagination is probably telling you now. You are both young and we understand how frightening this is for you but you will receive a lot of help here and everyone here will...

Hank, There doesn't seem to be any good purpose to this thread now. I think a lot of us would be happy to see you close it down and let us get on to the real good we can do by helping those who truly need and depend on us!

    A-fib Episode: Perfect Timing

Nate, Timing is everything, isn't it? How blessed you were to be in the cardio's office at the right time! "scared-straight program for afib" That's a good one! My pacer monitor recently told my EP that I was in afib and she scheduled me for the paddles (cardioversion) so I checked in to the...

    RobThatsMe

Are you keeping up with Christi's site on Rob? Here's a reminder of their site: https://sites.google.com/site/robthatsmecristid/home/bobs-updates-2 He was admitted to the Cleveland Clinic today, a day earlier than planned because his INR is 1.5 so they wanted to start a heparin drip right away.

Groan..... It Really Doesn't Get Easier.

Just remember it all depends on the expertise of the one who is doing your echo. Pre-surgery one of my echos said I had 1+to 2, another, 2 weeks later with a different technician said my mitral regurg. was 3+ to 4+. I'm sure it didn't worsen like that in that amount of time.

    Defection

I don't think that is a very fair statement; I have seen no sign of recruiting on the part of the organizers and I didn't even know there was another site until I read Hank's statement. There was even a long period of time between the startup of HVP and Hank's statement so in truth Hank did the...
