    Concerns about my ticker

I had my aortic valve replaced as well as having a dacron graft for my ascending aorta in June. I have recently returned to work and have started living my life normally again, but I keep having strange things happen. 1. I see little light spots in my vision frequently during the day. This...

    anxious and just plain scared

Almost a month post-surgery and I still prefer ice cold water to any other beverage. I was a huge soda drinker before but now nothing seems quite as good as a tall glass of ice water. I need to buy some stock in Smartwater. :)

    Surgery on Monday

Best of luck, not that you'll need it because I'm sure you'll do fine! Just make sure you ask questions of the medical staff if you have any concerns! Can't wait to hear your story.

    anxious and just plain scared

I took my xanax up until my surgery, that's when the anesthesia team and their magic amnesia medicine had me ready to get on with it. They understand the amount of anxiety you'll be under, but if you're an abnormally anxious person (like myself) you should be 100% up front with each medical...

    anxious and just plain scared

I was quite thirsty, so much so I collected my cups from the ice chips so that when my doc came I could explain how badly I needed a drink. He obliged and all was well. I think we all have slightly different levels of nausea after surgery as I never had any issues until at home. I can remember...

    iPhone mic recorded heartbeat

It doesn't bother me at all. I've noticed that children can hear it better than adults. Sometimes depending on my position it is louder, but the loudest so far is if I cross my left arm over my chest. It's audible to most in a quiet room then. Sometimes I think people can hear it but when I ask...

    iPhone mic recorded heartbeat

I made this one on the 27th, just uploaded it for you. I thought it was pretty awesome. I used a Motorola Droid Mini and I just sat the phone on my chest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL4tSEdftGk&feature=youtu.be

So I just had my surgery...

I spoke with them today and they said at three weeks out of surgery fluid is a minor concern and said it was most likely inflammation. The recommended I take the Naproxen I had but I'm almost out of it. They recommend that I purchase some Aleve as it's essentially the same thing. Thanks for...

So I just had my surgery...

I have a new concern. I've started having pain in my side and shortness of breath. It hurts only if I take a deep breath and my heart feels like its going to beat out of my chest. I'm concerned it could be fluid buildup.....has anyone experienced a fluid buildup? Am I being paranoid??

So I just had my surgery...

Nope no broken bones or any significant injury other than having some kid throw a huge railroad rock at my car while I was driving and getting lucky enough to be just about knocked out by it. Recovery from that was cake though. I don't think it helps that I'm so impatient.

So I just had my surgery...

My first hospitalization was due to shortness of breath caused by my anuerysm and my only surgery was open heart. Other than my heart I'm ridiculously healthy, I can't wait to get back to normal. I want to be a police officer and this surgery interrupted my training and my tryout. I'm hoping I...

So I just had my surgery...

This makes sense. I try to do the stretches but they hurt!!! In order to promote a little humor I wanted to share a clip from the movie Dumb and Dumber that reminded me of my first visit to the bathroom at the hospital.....man are those hospital laxatives brutal...

So I just had my surgery...

Thanks a ton. This is exactly what I needed to know. The way my surgeon acted I was wayyyyyyy to curious. I guess he doesn't get a lot of younger patients that use the internet as much as I do. I just like to know what the heck is going on with my body. The only real concern I have now is...

So I just had my surgery...

I didn't update you guys yet but my doctor explained that because so much of my ascending aorta was aneurysmal he cut near my right shoulder in order to clamp off the artery to my right arm and insert the return for the heart lung machine. He also stated that he performed a partial or mini...
