Has anyone experienced any SupraVentricularTachya?(I think that what's it is called?) I had my mitral valve repaired 2 month ago , amd about 3 week ago I had this apisode of SVT. The Dr. put me on Toporol and I have'nt had it. I hate the toporol. Lowers the blood pressure, and makes me tired. Couldn't start cardio rehab because of it. I finaly got the clearance form the cardiologyst today. I also ask to go back to work and got the ok. Just going stirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr crazy.

Hi Rachelle,

My husband, Chris, has SVT and he takes Noten. He hasn't had an episode of it again, but says that he does feel a bit 'airy' at times due to the medication, particularly when he's tired. When you have an episode of SVT, it is pretty scary...Chris's cardio taught him a few tips to treat the SVT conservatively when it occurs, eg. the 'dead cat' position (lol!)
There is surgery that you can have, but we have decided against it, as it is not always successful.

SVT requires some special care. I would see a rhythm doctor and get a second opinion on how to handle the svt.

Hi,
Thanks for the input.
Originaly,my cardio wanted to sent me to a specialist, but after the halter monitor and non of my complaints she suggested to wait and see if I get any episodes.
I had a stress test and got the ok to start the cardio rehab. Hopefully , will get the clearance from a local hospital, because , I dont feel like driving to manhatan 3x a week just for that.

What is the "dead cat position"?

The 'dead cat' position is where you lie on your back, and put your extremities (arms and feet) in the air, tense your body and hold your breath for a few seconds. Not sure of it's validity, but on the one occasion that Chris tried it, the SVT did stop. But the stop to the SVT episode could have been attributed to other factors too I'm sure.

We asked the same question (what is it?) when our first cardio told us about it....and he promptly showed us the manouvere! Wish I could have taken a photo!

I can't imagine that cats would really end up in that position when they die...or do they?!!

I heared about holding your breath and putting your face in a sink with cold water as a way of halting it.
The last alternative is a surgical procedure.
