Man I missed the board while it was down. I have been doing great til a couple of hours ago. I developed a strange pain in my left sholder and just below my collar bone. It is a dull pain and the muscle feels sore. A pain pill helped but did not take it away. My BP is fine 108/70. I have no nausea , shortness of breath etc. Feels like a really sore muscle. I wonder if this could be a nerve that has been cut and trying to heal or something else. I am 3 weeks post op and getting stronger each day and had actually started getting several hours of sleep. I don't think I will get any sleep tonight. I am going to try a heating pad. Any sugestions?

No suggestions, but I feel for you. Starting to get sleep, and then being robbed of it would p... me right off, I can tell you!

If the pain gets worse, or you get SOB or anything else, go to emergency, although it probably is just a pulled muscle or something. Did you do something unusual over the last few days, maybe even drastically change your sleeping position? I remember having so many cramps and aches, I have a touch of arthritis in my right shoulder and a bad back, trying to get out of bed was liike running a marathon, and hurt every time.

I walk with Canidain crutches and did a little more walking today but I don't think enough to pull or strain any thing. I have a heating pad on ot now and that seems to be helping. I will just have to see. If I get any shortness of breath or other symtoms I will go to the emergency. However, at this point I think it is in the muscle and my sholder joint. I have a lot of ostio athritus so it may be related to that.

If it gets worse, go to the ER. That is exactly where my pain starts when I have pericarditis - then it starts radiating.

If you can pin-point the pain with your finger, its probably a muscle - I still get them after 2 years.
Try to relax your shoulders while your sitting.
Sit in a upright position, back straight with head and neck in line with your back. With your own strength, gently push your shoulders down and back. Do it slowly.

Without realizing it you could be holding your shoulders up to your ears when you think your relaxed. Been there, done that.

Hope the pain subsides soon.

Well I made it through the night and got a couple of hours sleep. I put a heating pad on the area that was hurting and it gave some relief. I got up about 4:30 AM and eat some pudding so I could take a pain pill. I hurt so bad lat night I did not eat my meal. (It was ribeye steak so you know I was hurting not to eat that.) I plan to lay back down in a little while. We I first got up my temp was 99.2. However I had sleep with the heating pard on my neck all nigh. After the pad was off 30 min. my temp whent down to normal. From reading other posts I guess I can expect many other strange things in the weeks and months ahead. I am just trying to seperate the strange from the serious.

When ever your in doubt, get it checked out.
We can only suggest thoughts & ideas by your description of your pain.

If your that uncomfortable and not sleeping, I'm thinking you best go see your doctor.

John,

Is the pain worse when lying down, leaning forward or when breathing deeply? If so, like Lisa said, it could be pericarditis. The slight temp could indicate that also. I would get it checked as there are meds that can knock that out pretty quickly.

The pain is nearly gone today and I have been laying around a lot. My temp is normal. I think the slight temp was from sleeping with a heating pad on my neck and sholder all night. 30 min after I quit using it my temp went down and stayed down. The pain does not get worse with deep breaths or lying down just certain positions and it is much better today. If it gets worse I will go to see a doc. Problem is we do not have a cardioligist here so it would have to be a GP or internist.

I think I just had a bad couple of days. A muscle or nerve or something doing wierd things. I feel much better today . My temp is normal and the strange pain is gone. I do have pain in my left sholder when it gets a little pressure on it. I think it just got more stretching from the chest spreader. Anyway it seems I am back on track.

Thanks. I have rested a lot the last couple of days. I may have been pushing a little hard.
