Last night the strange muscle/joint pain returned. It woke me up at 1:30AM. The pain got bad enough I woke my granddaughter with my moaning. I took 2 pain pills and put heat on it and finally got it calmed down. No SOB or cardio symtoms of any kind. Today I recalled reading the side effects of satins and looked up simvastin. Yes one of the side effects is muscle or joint pain another is gas which I have had plenty of. I am not going to take the simvastin for a couple of days and see if the pain goes away. This did not start until nearly a month after the surgery so it is the only thing that makes sense to me. Has anyone else experienced side effects of satins.

Thanks Cooker. I go back to see the surgeon Aug. 6. I will talk with him then. I really did not know why he put me on a satin my total colestrol was 181 before surgery My HDL is always low but from what I read most satins are not very effective in rasing the HDL. I am taking niasin for that and according to Mayo clinic in large doese 1000-2000mg it is more effective at raising HDL. I will see if this stops the muscle and joint pain.

I still think it's possible that you're having pericarditis. Mine didn't come on until 8 weeks after surgery. It can occur with or without fluid buildup. With signficant fluid buildup you will be short of breath and feel like an elephant is standing on you when you lie on your back. Without fluid it causes pain. When you say you are taking a pain pill, what exactly are you taking? If it is an anti-inflammatory, not only will it help the pain, it will help the problem. If you stop taking the anti-inflammatory before it goes away, it will come back.

I am pretty sure it was the satin drug. It is 5AM I slept most of the night. No pain pills and no significant pain. By tomorrow I will be sure.

I believe I am back on track. without the zocor I don't have pain and feel better with a lot more energy today. Thank goodness.
