I am 4 weeks post op on Tuesday, but feel worse this week than I have the last three weeks. I was outside walking and actually feeling lots better until this week.

My energy is zilch and I feel somewhat depressed. I am really trying not to feel this way.

I am not on any meds except the Warfarin and some antibiotics for my incision.

I still have a very low appetite. Is is possible there could be anemia again. I am trying hard not to take pain meds. The only thing that really hurts are my three incisions....that is actually what I have to take the pain meds for. It's only Darvocet, so not like it's anything major.

This isn't me. I am usually the life of the party....the one that's always up.

Did you have pericardial effusion - fluid in the pericardial sac or am I thinking of someone else? Because that can make you feel like crap, speaking from experience.
Anyway, feeling quite a lot worse after feeling good for a couple of weeks warrants a trip to the doctor, IMHO, in order to get checked out. Don't just put up with it, go and see your GP and tell him/her how you are feeling.

I think it is probably nothing/normal, but I would not hesitate to give the doctor's office a call.

Remember, all of these drugs (and wait til you see the list of drugs they used during your surgery!!! elephant tranquilizers!!!) have lingering effects. We really do not purge ourselves from them for a year or more. They can bring on any and all kinds of "not feeling normal".

So call someone and ask. But if they all pooh-pooh you, then try to accept it as a natural progression of the emotional toll of the surgery.

If after a few more weeks, you really cannot shake things, then it's time to talk to you GP and see about possibly getting a little help for possible depression. This may just be temporary; due to the surgery, but still something that a professional could better help you with.

Hang in there. It really does get better!!!!!

Best wishes

Marguerite

I got fluid in the lungs really bad afterwards and had to go back on the tube. I am not sure what else I had.

I do have a visit Monday.....was supposed to see cardiologist Friday but he had an emergency surgery.

I see cardio and pulmonary both on Monday.

I have Pericardial Effusion and anemia still, 3 1/2 weeks post op (same day surgery as you) My appetite is getting better and I am also taking darvocet as I still have incision pain (more soreness then pain). Anemia will make you weak and just feel like you have no energy. I have to push myself to get going, I am walking and doing the exercises the rehab people told me to do. I also had lots of fluid in my lungs post op but that is finally clearing up. Maybe a blood test is in order to see how anemic you may be and an echo to check for fluid around the heart?
Also be very careful of depression, that will sneak up on you. It has tried several times to "attack" me but fighting that off also.
God Bless,

Thanks everyone....hubby says if this continues we are going to ER this evening. I just find it weird to feel so good last week and before and then so bad this week.

Depression

According to my cardiologist, post-traumatic stress syndrome is fairly common following OHS. I had a nasty bout with it even though my recovery went pretty well. You might want to visit with your cardiologist about your symptoms.

Yep, "When in Doubt, Check it Out"!

If you haven't gone to the ER already,
you may want to consider placing a call to your PCP or Cardiologist, or Surgeon's After-Hours Number,
tell the operator your concern and ask for whoever is on-call to call you back so that you can get a recommendation. Alternatively, go to the ER.
