I tested 4.2 today. I was 4.0 last week and She lowered me 2mg to 18mg. She has me not taking a dose tonight and then 2mg every day but friday and take 4 mg. that will be 14mg this week. I am eating my greens every day in fact I'm making sure of it. Just wanted to let everyone know what my INR is up to...

AARGH !!!

Personally, I NEVER Hold a Dose for an INR under 5.0, maybe even 5.5 At Most, I would cut the dose in half for ONE day, then resume your old schedule.

Dropping from 18 to 14 mg/week is a 22% Drop, another NO-NO.
At most, I would have cut back from 18 to 16 mg/week.
IMO, This Nurse is PARANOID about the Risk of Bleeding and OBLIVIOUS to the Risk of Stroke and she is setting you up for another Roller-Coaster Ride. #!#!

I would ask her to SHOW you the Guidelines she used to make that recommendation.

Just my UNbiased, UNeducated, NON-Profession OPINION. :)

You know I dont trust her at all, even though she thinks I should... Sometimes when I go in she is working on school things other times she is on facebook!!! Yep! I was thinking the same as you that I should just go down the 2mg to 16 mg. I think I might just accidentally take my 2mg tonight...

Carole,

I hope you are keeping a Daily Record of your dose (as recommended by this Nurse) and noting your INR on the Test Dates.

If I were in your situation, I would then show this record to your Cardiologist on your next appointment so that he can see what this nurse is doing. Maybe he might even send her for some Continuing Education :)

Yep, I am!! I actually see the cardiologist for the first time since surgery tomorrow. I actually only saw him once before surgery!! LOL.... I really don't know what all to expect from my visit but hope he checks me out good! I go see a mitral valve specialist on June 12th as well... THANKS, I love my nurses here, LOL!!!!

All winter long I was taking 19 mg per week....but the past few weeks my INR was creeping up a bit.
With my own reading of 4.2 all I did was reduce my weekly dosage to 18 mg per week.
That is to say that now I am taking 3 mg on four days and 2 mg on three days.
Now my INR was 3.5
NO dose holding. :)
