    Just got called and now surgery date is off til Friday the 23rd, how can I cope, I probably just got myself pumped enough to go and get it done with and now this.

Also now my family has to fight the nightmare traffic situation in Boston for the Dem. Nat. Convention.....Oh Boy........!

HELP............HELP.............HELP

Relax. Don't worry. Take a deep breath.

Your surgery was postponed because of the hospital, not because of you, right?

Ah, what the heck, Harry!

If you're not a smoker or drinker, now's your chance! You can justify the heck out of any behavior you want to with this latest bit of news! :D Indulge yourself in an eating, drinking, late night frenzy with the extra time.

Seriously, I know it must be awful for you but think of the alternative. For whatever reason, something has occured that makes them want to postpone. Would you really want to be having surgery unless everyone was whole heartedly onboard? Try to view this postponement as a good thing.

I know it's easy for me to say ( it's not me), but there really is no good answer. :(

Harry,

I can imagine how you feel. I was SO ready that I think I would have just shut down if they had postponed my date at the last minute. Having said that, I agree with the others that you want your surgical team in top form.

My surgeon had forewarned me that if there was an emergency surgery the night before, my surgery would likely be postponed because the three surgeons and their team would be too tired to do another one.

Take a deep breath - hey, if the hospital has already given you the spirometer, you can practice on that! :)

Hang in there: it will all be behind you soon.

Harry,
So sorry you have to go through this angst - I know that once you are prepared, you want to just get it over with, but you do want the hospital, doctors to be ready too! Which hospital in Boston are you going to? My daughter is taking the MA bar exam on the 28th and there is a lot of angst for her too - hoping she gets there in time from her home in Cambridge. You might want to check out a Boston website and I'm sure there will be a lot of information about public transportation, street closings, etc. Don't work yourself up in the meantime, take a breath and try to enjoy the time you have left!

Hang in there. My surgery was set for a tuesday, and was put off until friday. Its not easy getting all pumped up and ready, only to be let down. But, you can and you will deal with it, because God doesn't send you any more difficulty than you can handle. When mine was put off, the night I was supposed to have surgery the wife and I went our and I had about 45 margaritas, at least that is what it seemed like the next day !

Getting away for a few days..!

Getting away for a few days..!

Well now that I got that news I will be able to have a few drinks this weekend with my wife and a few other friends, taking off to Maine in an hour or so and spending time at the Sebago Lake.....What more could I ask for....!
So pumped now deflated...... ;)

Aww shucks

Aww shucks

Harry, sorry to hear about the postponement. Just try to keep positive. We are all here for you to talk to, vent to, complain to or whatever in the mean time. :p

You know there's a positive side to having your surgery postponed...

It wouldn't have been if you were really sick.

Relax, take a few deep breaths and enjoy the few extra days you have before you get to climb that stupid mountain thing and work your way down the other side.

So many of us who've been through surgery spend a lot of time before hand trying to get various states of affairs and such in order before we were "incapacitated" and most of us didn't get everything we wanted to get done done.

You have a few extra days now, use them wisely. Check and recheck and give the people close to you a few extra hugs.

Surgery will come in time, there's no need to rush headlong into it and there's no need to get upset because it's been delayed. They just wouldn't do that if you (and/or your body) couldn't wait any longer.

Waiting's hard, but these things will come in their time.

The week before my surgery was the longest week of my life.

The week before my surgery was the longest week of my life.

Harry,

My worst nightmare came true when the nurse came in the morning that I was supposed to have surgery and told me that my surgeon was performing an emergency surgery and couldn?t do me until the next day.

I will never be able to describe my feelings at that point in time. No one (except someone who has been there) can know what it takes to mentally prepare yourself for this surgery.

It's amazing what you can cope with when you have no choice.

Best wishes! Stay Positive!!

I was admitted after my cath on Wed and booked to have surgery the next day. About 6pm the Dr came in and told me I was postponed until Friday. Boy, I didn't know if I should run or what. I asked to be discharged and readmitted on Friday Am. The good thing was that my surgery was rebooked for 7:30am and not 10:30am . It is a bummer, but everything happens for a reason. Enjoy your weekend away.

how to relax

how to relax

After having been told I had only about 30 days to live. I was not happy when they postponed my surgery for two weeks for my wisdom teeth to be pulled. I meditated more took longer walks spent more time with my kids romping around in the yaard. They both have four legs. And before I knew it it was done.

Hang in there Harry,
As you can see a lot of us had delays for one reason or another.
Mine was almost two months due to a cold.
It is a let down but all things happen for a reason, maybe the time just wasn't exactly right for you.
And we all want everything to go right for you. :D

been there

been there

Harrry,

I had the same problem and totally understand what you are going thru. I was suppose to have my surgery on the 17th of June on the 16th the nurse called and said it had been pushed up to the 18th. I arrived at the hospital on the 17th admitted, IV'ed test run etc. The doctor came around and said I could stay or go home but the surgery again was rescheduled for June 21st. It takes a toll on you. I found comfort here but also in the thought that everything happens for a reason. Who knows if I had gone under on one of the other dates I may not be here or the surgery may have not gone as well. Best of luck things will be fine and for sure enjoy every last minute. Cause right now you feel better than you will for awhile. You will soon be really sore and bored. Enjoy. :D

Oh, Harry, Harry, Harry . . . WHAT TO DO with an extra week in Maine???

Well, two things come to mind - lobster and blueberries. Oh - #3 - clams.

When surgery is postponed like that it's for a reason - even a cosmic reason. Always want everyone to be ready to do the surgery.

Good luck and enjoy your forced vacation.

Most likely, more critical cases took the fore. That's a true bummer.

I'm glad you got a trip out of it, at least. Being away in a beautiful place can sure take your mind off things.

When you come back to face the hospital again, you will be stronger and happier for it.

I loved Maine, when we visted last year. We want to go back.

Best wishes,
