Heart Valve Re-Operations
Heart Valve Re-Operations
Terrifying but good to knowit certainly can and does happen for a variety of reasons
there are plenty on this board who have gone through multiple surgeries
each successive surgery becomes much more complicated than the first
Correct..Those under 66 tend to have more active immune systems which causes the body to burn through and calcify non mechanical valves at a faster burn rate than those over 65. I was suprised to find out that TAVI/TAVR still leaves the old valve in you and should be retitled "Valve in Valve". Correct me if I am wrong on any count.I have read that bioprostheses last longer in patients who receive them when they are older. I got mine when I was 66. My surgeon told me to expect to need a replacement between 8 and 12 years out. He also assured me that it could most likely be done transcatheter. This is a reassuring video. It is important to go with a highly experienced and competent team.
Yes, that is how it works, and is not 100% for sure that could be done when needed, but nothing is perfect.I was suprised to find out that TAVI/TAVR still leaves the old valve in you and should be retitled "Valve in Valve". Correct me if I am wrong on any count.
