Hello all,

I went to get my hair cut today and my hairdresser noticed I have a small spot on the back of my head where it's gone bald. She had a long name for it but said it's common and stress can cause it. She said she sees it alot in college students, esp. during final exam time.

Did any of you experience anything like this?

If it isn't one thing it's another.

I am beginning to just think OHS is going to make me fall apart.

Yes my son did after his first surgery. Its called Alopecia. He was only 18 months old and only got one bald patch. It was very noticable for a few years, he still as it now but you can't tell as much. I think i remember the doctor saying that there is nothing you can take for it and don't qoute me on this but i think it is a case of if could grow back or it might not, don't think they really have a answer but yes it is cause by stress.

Joe had hair loss whenever he had surgery or difficult medical problems. He normally had a full head of hair, so that was unusual for him. It did grow back in after a while.

I agree with what you have been told, stress (physical, not emotional) can cause it.

Also lying in bed in the hospital can cause small areas of baldness.

I think we even had one member here who developed a bedsore on the back of her head, but that is a whole other thing. That is from lying in one position for a long while.

I'm thinking that maybe when you are sleeping, you aren't moving around a whole lot because surgery was not that long ago, and perhaps you are losing hair from it rubbing on the pillow in that one spot. Check that out when you go to bed tonight. if that is the case, see about getting a satin pillowcase which would be gentler on your hair, and would abrade it less.

yes I had it. It lasted about 3 weeks. Everytime I would take a shower, the drain would be full of hair, at least 3 time per shower and I never do that. I thought it was very odd. When I was at the Drs I asked about it and they say it is very normal. this is how your body deals with sever trauma. My dr also said that you might see some change in your nails too. It does get better.

Stress! You should see my cat when she's stressed. She sheds like a fan hit her and tons of fur falls out.

yep this has happened to me in the past too and im expecting it to happen any day now to me. it grows back!
